Party On!

Altamont Road

This fire hydrant in my neighborhood has worn its party hat for weeks now.  Every so often a storm will blow it off but miraculously, it finds its way back on.  Makes me very happy that I live in a place with a sense of humor.

The Vine Covered Window

This image is deceiving.  Actually it was taken from the inside of a Southern Accents Architectural Antiques looking out. These vines were hanging outside over the glass.  I was fascinated by the shadows etc. that give the appearance of a vine covered wall.

Chapel Window

It's not often that you find stained glass windows in an abstract pattern. This is one of several in the chapel at Kirkwood By The River retirement community.

Stormy Weather

Yesterday I spent a lot of time at Kirkwood By The River,  helping with their renovation/redecorations efforts.  It is a beautiful retirement community located along the Cahaba River.  We got some stormy weather after lunch,  so I shot this through the glass on the sunporch.

Fill 'er Up

er

Saturday, April 13th marks the day that our Pepper Place Market cranks back up.  These cartons will be brimming over with whatever Alabama farmers have to offer. I can't wait!

Play Ball.....Soon!

Soon the Birmingham Barons will be playing on their brand new field just across from Railroad Park just south of downtown. They have been playing ball in this city since 1885!   You'll have to cut me some slack on this photo today, there's still a lot of construction going on,  so I had to snap this through a chain link fence. I'm hoping to talk my way inside one day soon, before the opening game in April!

You're a Grand Old Flag!

We're back in Cullman again today ( about 55 min. north of B'ham) at my new favorite place, Southern Accents Architectural Antiques.  Upstairs there's this enormous old flag and I loved the light shining through it with the antique chandelier.

I've posted another photograph here.

Good Morning Sunshine!

Oh I am thinking spring is tip toeing through the tulips in Birmingham. Well actually they aren't blooming in our yards and gardens just quite yet, but the sun is shining and the weather is getting warmer.  I captured this tulip inside at the Henhouse Antiques where I work on Saturdays with my iPhone.

WInter Pad

Hopefully the Kayser Lily Pool at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens will have be in bloom again soon.  I rather liked the winter look of the lil pads though.

Where's My Horse?

Yesterday my photography friends Patty and Katie joined me for a photo shoot in Cullman, AL at Southern Accents Architectural Antiques. To say is it a treasure trove is an understatement. If they don't have it, you don't need it.  I'm sure I overlooked the horse that goes with this bridle somewhere in that building out back!

Anyone Know?

I'm thinking that was a handy dandy ashtray in days gone by.  They chair still gets a lot of use at Don's Hair Care Center downtown.

Details - The Massey Building

As they say, "They don't make 'em like that anymore."  Indeed they don't. The Massey Building, built in 1925, this 10 story building on 3rd Avenue North cost $500,000. A bargain.

Young Love

Let me clarify that.  I am assuming they are in love based on 1. they smiles 2. the bouquet of flowers at her feet.  I snapped this happy couple in the midst of the Mercedes Marathon at Linn Park.  We can always hope!

Hearty Souls

This was taken last Friday when the temps was probably in the high 30's, but we found at least five varieties of ferns growing out of the bricks and rocks here at Sloss Furnaces.

Boxes

Yesterday, my photography buddy Michael and I stopped off at Sloss Furnaces. It was cold and overcast but we decided to see if we could find some new things that we'd not shot before.  We've both been there more times than we could count.  A challenge but he and I both agreed that we saw t his wonderful Birmingham landmark with new eyes. I have lots  more to share!
