99 Bottles of Wine...

on the fence. My very fun neighbors have created this amazing wine bottle fence in their backyard. I'm pretty sure our neighborhood ladies' wine group has been responsible for many of these.

Meet Tracy

Tracy's in Crestline is a hot spot for a meat and three, not to mention a mighty delicious cheeseburger. I visit quite often, and Tracy's smiling face from the kitchen is always welcome.

I will be teaching my photography classes at Vestavia Hills United Methodist's Conservatory of the Arts again this fall. If you have working knowledge of your digital camera, join us for a fun way to learn to take better photographs of your friends, family as well as travel photos.

Up Close

For the past several months, I've been learning to use my macro phone lens. It's tricky business but a lot of fun. It's been interesting to see what looks good under a macro lens and what doesn't. Certainly this rose in full bloom gave me a lot of practice.

Porch Sittin'

I grew up sitting on my grandparents' front porch rocking, every single night. This colorful vintage chair can't hold a candle to their big wooden rockers but certainly should evoke some warm memories for many of us.

Geared Up

The Barber Motorsports Museum is amazing even if you don't know one thing about race cars or motorcycles. Each time I go, I find new and interesting details that catch my eye. Every single car or bike is in pristine condition, no matter the age. I love taking photography students there, especially those who have never been. Photographer's buffet!

Shell Game

The historic Alabama Theatre is easily recognizable with it's  huge neon signage. Built in 1927, it's a Birmingham treasure. I recently watched a showing of To Kill A Mockingbird there and just sitting in that gorgeous theatre brought back fond memories of all the zillion movies I saw there when I was growing up. Most likely the side of the building which faces 18th Street goes unnoticed. It's really quite unusual, with it's wonderful shell pattern.

Pepper Place Fan

The Pepper Place Market draws a huge crowd every Saturday morning from spring thru early fall. People flock there for many reasons. The fresh produce from Alabama farmers is the number one but there are also fabulous arts and crafts, chef demonstrations,  plus live music in several venues. This cutie stopped to have a listen.

The Music Man

Meet my new friend Bob Tedrow. Oh I've known about Bob for years. He owns Homewood Musical Instuments  and also Tedrow Concertinas. I stopped in recently to say hello and have a look around. It's full of instruments they build and repair. The real reason I wanted to meet Bob, was to tell him I'd seen his fine photography on Facebook and how much I admired his portraits. I hope I will be invited back. His shop is a photographer's delight!

Men At Work

The Historic Lyric Theatre is a hardhat area  ( I've even donned one a time or two) as workers from Stewart Perry construction and artisans from all over the country work feverishly to complete the restoration of this grand 101 year old theatre by the end of the year,
