Lenten Photo a Day Project - Day 21 GO

“Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.” – Maya Angelou

Lenten Photo a Day Project - Day 15 SEE

I love seeing the stories of the Bible through the eyes of the children at our church. They heard the stories told by a catechist then they act them out as a way to internalize what they have learned. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd reaches children from 3 years to 4th grade.

Lenten Photo a Day Practice- Day 10 FREE

It's often said that the best things in life are free. For those who struggle to make ends meet or are homeless, this is especially true. How fortunate there are places across this city who feed the hungry. Highlands United Methodist Church offers breakfast 6 days a week. A blessing in our community.

Lenten Photo a Day - Day 8 Preserve

As a photographer, I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to photograph events in the life of a family, my church or my community. Through the years I have experienced moments in history that I can capture and preserve. This is the best part of what I do.

Last Sunday, I traveled to Selma, Alabama with friends for the 52nd Selma March marking that day in the history of the Civil Rights Movement. It was the first time I'd ever walked over the infamous Edmund Pettus Bridge and I felt the same way as this young boy with his sister.

Lenten Photo a Day Practice - Day 3 Sacrifice

So many sacrificed during the Civil Rights Movement, and here in Birmingham, we have never forgotten. The Eour Spritis, by Birmingham sculptor Elizabeth McQueen is a powerful tribute to the four young girls killed in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in 1963. In the distance, Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.  Kelly Ingram Park, Birmingham.

My sweet little friend Grace, aka Amazing Grace, was just finishing her chemo when I took this photo. As you can see, her baby was healing too, with a band-aid on her boo boo. We are all grateful for Grace's recovery and continued healing.
