Happy Birthday to Us!

This has been a big week for our family!  My two youngest grandchildren both celebrated their 4th  birthdays (a day apart) this week.  This is our Laura Kate at her party on Wednesday.  She helped her Mom make those cupcakes.   I just had to include her friend Belle who was all about the chocolate icing.    Davis will host a Pirate Party today.  You will be treated to a photo one day soon.  A crowd of rowdy little swashbucklers should make for some interesting pictures!

Today, I am celebrating my 100th post on City Daily Photo.  My mother always said,"Ignorance is bliss."  You can say that again.  When I naively created this blog I thought it would be just a photo and a caption each day. Whew!  Why did I ever think I could say ANYTHING in one sentence???  Well, 100 posts later I can tell you that it's way more work than I imagined, but I've never had so much fun.  Stressful having to amass a warehouse full of photos - Yes!  The pay-off?  Meeting some incredibly nice folks right here in Birmingham and getting to know all of you from near and far flung cities around the world!   What an interesting, talented, caring group of photographers you are.  A special thanks to Janet (Rambling Round) in Selma for your patience helping me to get up and running.  You answered at least a million questions and showed me the ropes.  Tom Wigley, you were a wonderful mentor as well.  I would never have been able to participate in Skywatch if you hadn't taken me under your wing.  Strangetastes (St.Louis, MO DP) you continue to give me much needed feedback on my photographs.  Thank you for your expert advice and your friendship.  And before the orchestra starts playing to get me off the stage,  let me thank every one of you who stop by and read my blog, and those who leave comments - your encouragement, suggestions,  and often hilarious comments make my day and raise the bar for me.  Merci beaucoup mes amis.

For such a special occasion, I have chosen 3 Tunes du Jour.  Take your pick!

Love your photo today. And it is much like mine on my Brookville blog.

Congratulations! You have been discouraged at times (like we all are) but you stuck with it and created a solid body of work. You have a humane eye, if that means anything, and a gift for connecting with people. By the way, chocolate-face is fabulous. The pattern makes her look like she's in training to join the Three Musketeers. Which, of course, is also the name of a chocolate bar.

It's a great group we have here. I've enjoyed your photos and stories about Birmingham, and feel privileged to have met you, if only in the virtual world.
And the chocolate mustache, oh my, it made my day.

Oh, what lucky kids! Mom and daughter making cupcakes - that's really nice. Laura Kate is adorable and so is her chocolate mustachioed little friend.

Nice pictures, V! I like all the color behind Laura Kate and the warm tone of the shot. Good tune pick, also - I feel like I'm at the party!

Congratulations, Virginia! Thank you for showing us a gem of the South and sharing your warm and fun personality with us. You make the City Daily Photo blogging world a lovely place!

P.S. I ate a cupcake the other day and came out looking like that, too! I'm not sure that's a good thing, given I'm 10 times older than your grandkids... Hm. :-D

I've been impressed with everything form the architecture, the cosmoplitan feel and above all the people. Looking forward to it's continuation and some fabulous photography. Just too cute these images. AMAZING EYES.

Happy 100th Post! The days do fly by, and you have done a great job. I appreciate your mention, and you are most welcome. It's nice to have daily photos from Birmingham and Tuscloosa. Now, we just need photos from Mobile and Montgomery!

Good morning Birming-ham! (Just so you know, that's my Robin Williams impression.)
100 posts, 100 congratulations! It is a lot of work and it is a good thing we don't know what we're getting ourselves into. These portraits are to die for and I'm particularly moved by your sensitive portrayal of "chocolat". You love your work and it shows.
You've been a good blogging buddy to me and I wish you all the best. ;D
Finally, I will be giving you a BBQ report when I return from Memphis. I'm also going to be working on a meme when I'm up there. It involves the gate to Graceland and some "guerilla" art. No, I'm not going to perpetrate anything criminal, just fun -- I hope.
Cheers!

The portraits are soooooo good - I just love both girls' beautiful eyes you've caputed so well. Hurray for September b-day's (from another Sept b-day person) & happy birthday to your grandchildren. Your 100 posts have been a wonderful treat each day for me. The effort you put into each one is very apparent by the beauty & insight provided by the collection. Plus all the time you put in "visiting" us is so encouraging. Thank you so much & congrats!

I love the blog! I am going to put it as a link on mine, so I can visit when I am on the computer! Seems like retirement agrees with you!

Thank you to all my friends who stopped by today with good wishes. Welcome to my two Homewood buddies who checked in. I miss you guys but not enough to come out of retirement. By theway, this is a great way to host a party, nothing to clean up when you all leave! :)
