Name The Mushrooms!

You know how photographers are.  We go in for the shot and then the important information, like what type mushrooms these are, goes right past us.  I do know that they were from Sanctuary Farms in Glencoe, AL.  Visit their stand at the Pepper Place Market.  While you're there, find out about these gorgeous mushrooms for me.

Just kidding. The owners were kind enough to email me the results late last night,  they are....OYSTER MUSHROOMS.  Who knew!!!

Georgia artist Lisa Mote's (#343) glass art was gorgeous with the afternoon sun hitting her colorful work. Magic City Art Connection is still in full swing. Head on down to Linn Park today for the final  day of the 30th annual show!

Magic City Art Connection - Eye Beam Project

Friday marked the opening of the 20th annual Magic City Art Connection at Linn Park.  Expect lots of photos for a few days!

Today I share the Eye Beam Project sponsored by University of Montevallo in collaboration with area architects.  This hands on activity for kids will take shape throughout the weekend.  I'm hoping to get back down there on Sunday afternoon and check the progress.

From Turkey With Love

Fritz Woehle has a treasure trove stashed across the street from The Garages on the southside.  If memory serves, this gorgeous old door is a piece from Turkey.

Magic in the Park

This weekend Birmingham's Linn Park comes alive with art and music when the 30th Magic City Art Connection gets into full swing.  My favorite spot is the children's art area, of course.

Original?

The Original Pancake House in Five Points South has been a Birmingham institution for a long time.  Now I read online, that it's not all that original, there are over 100 franchises all over the USA!

Guess Where I Had Lunch Yesterday?

Paris you say? Well I wish, but I did the next best thing....déjeuner à Chez Fonfon, Five Points South right here in Birmingham.  I had the pleasure of lunching with Jett Gibson Brooks. Jett is in town from Tacoma to attend the Shades Valley High School Reunion this weekend.  We have connected through Facebook and had a lovely day together.

The Trees Are Dripping....

with the sweet smell of wisteria in full bloom.  Now the rest of the summer, we can wrestle with trying to control its wandering vines, but for now, it's glorious.

The Carleton Reese Memorial Unity Choir

This year Birmingham commemorates 50 years of the Civil Rights Movement.  The Carlton Reese Memorial Unity Choir performed at Independent Presbyterian's Casual Worship Service on Sunday evening.  The lady on the left is 83 years old and was a founding member of this choir which began as the Alabama  Christian Movement for Human Rights Choir.  She warned us that she was 83 and to forgive her if her voice cracked. It most certainly did NOT.  She was amazing as was the entire choir.

Remembering

I had another post chosen for today, but I went back over my photos from Birmingham's Mercedes Marathon and found this.  I think it fitting for today as we mourn those lost and injured in Boston, not just the runners, but all those that planned it and made it happen, the volunteers , and those that cheered them on.

The Skeptic

I spotted her with the floppy hat at the Pop Up Bazaar at Railroad Park last week.  She let me take about four photos but she didn't seem all that sure about the crazy lady with the camera!

A Pugalicious Day

Harry riding shotgun as the lookout for treats.  Lulu enjoying the scenery.

at the Pepper Place Market yesterday!  It was a great opening day for the Spring Market. Lots of people and a whole lot of canines!  BTW, these two just happen to be my downstairs neighbors, so of course they got top billing!

New Kids on the Block

Kinetic Communications moved into an old caboose on cobblestoned Morris Avenue this past  year and have made quite a statement.  I would love to get inside their super cool offices and have a look around.

Familiar Feet

While strolling the Pop Up Bazaar at Railroad Park last Sunday, I ran into this little guy and his mom.  You might remember his feet,  made famous a few years ago when he was just a wee boy.  Of course I had to take a snap of his newer version of the ever popular Crocs!  ( Maybe this will replace the other photo on Granddaddy's screen saver!)

Sunday Church Series - The Cross

When visiting Cullman, Alabama a few weeks ago we made a stop at St. Bernard College and walked down to the lovely cemetery and chapel there.  The simple, but beautiful  chapel, which was not open on my last visit, was a special find. Its sparse furnishings allow the stained glass windows to show through. This afternoon, the light cast some interesting shadows.

These stairs at Sloss Furnaces lead up to First Avenue North above.  I don't go very far up without a handrail, no matter how great the photo op!

is the name of the fundraising campaign to help rustle up some much needed funding to renovate the old Lyric Theatre downtown.  This is one of the lovely old light fixtures in the lobby.

EGGS!!!!

A mother duck, from the nearby lake laid about 30 eggs inside this tree trunk.  She'd taken a little break from egg sitting so we could get a closer look.  The security guard told me that the first one was blue and all the rest white, although they all appear bluish in my photos.

I spotted those cute little guys from yesterday's post and asked if they had seen the eggs. They were so excited to see them.

CDP Theme Day - Pedestrian Crossing

It's the first of the month and by now, you know the drill.  Today hundreds of City Daily Photobloggers around the world are posting their version of a common theme.  How do we get this monthly theme you ask? Well we all vote. I'll admit I DID NOT vote for this one and as of yesterday morning, I had nothing to offer until.... I attended the Dance Walk at Avondale Park in the afternoon.  Bingo!
