After the Concert

This is the last shot I got after Malcomb Holcombe's house concert a few weeks ago. Thanks Malcomb for a great evening!

This is nod to my friend Snapper's ( Gabriola DP)  fine,  fine series of musician's hands!

A WONDERFUL SURPRISE YESTERDAY:  My dear friend Mary Gilbert phoned me as she was leaving for Paris yesterday.  She called from BUSINESS CLASS, ( how divine) right before they took off.  I think I heard champagne corks popping! Bon voyage mon amie!!

Cool shot B&W was a nice choice.

I'm thinking about using my miles to fly business class next time I go to Europe. Then I think probably I won't get any sleep because I'll want to enjoy the experience, as oppossed to not sleeping due to the discomfort economy class. lol

I love this shot! So much better in B&W I imagine.

Someday I hope to know what is this business class you speak of...

Love it, love it, LOVE it! Everything about it. If there were a favorite button to click, I'd have hit it. Music, empty chairs, house concerts...these are all things dear to my heart so your image really speaks volumes.

How fun that Mary called from the runway. I hope she has a lovely time. Perhaps you'll keep us posted if you hear more of her adventures as she is having them.

A timely reminder, The Blues festival here is soon. Evocative and timeless. D.O.F. one of your best.

Love this shot, wow factor! What a dream to jet across the pond in those front class capsules.

Well, first off, I'm very flattered. So thanks Virginia. Halcyon said it best about making ordinary stuff look so good. That's a photographer's job really, to see the same stuff everyone else sees but in such a way that it commands more attention than most people give. I imagine everyone else had left or was in the next room shaking hands with Malcomb but you were still looking around with your lens and boy did you ever find something! Beautiful.

Most excellent shot!

Instead of showing the complete instrument, you choose to show us just a fragment. Excellent choice, V!!

James, Maya, DL,
I have no idea what that business class is I speak of. The only time I see it is when I am going and coming from the cattle car with the huddled masses.

Snapper,
I learn from you every day when I visit your blog!

Kim,
Merci ! The lens is an inexpensive 50mm. I use it all the time because it's so great in low light.

Alice,
Dogwood tree. They are in bloom all over Birmingham and they are gorgeous.

Bibi,
You will love Snapper's blog. His photos will blow you away!

Very Zen, Virginia. I read recently that those inexpensive 50 mm lenses are the best for a lot of kinds of photography. I've been thinking about this and looking at your photo I realize most of us don't see things with amazing depth of field, we see just part of an overall image. The compostion is wonderful.

And noone has noticed that I was sitting on the FLOOR for most of the evening in order to get these shots. Could someone help me up now????

PJ, I highly recommend the lens. It took a little getting use to because you can't zoom out, but now it stays on my camera most of the time. Fab fstop!

If I may chime in again, Virginia's absolutely right about the 50mm lens. Fast, lightweight and unobtrusive which is of course less intimidating if you are photographing strangers. Try a fifty f1.4 or 1.8 and you'll be hooked. As V said, it's a great everyday lens. HCB and Eliot Erwitt (among others) both created monumental bodies of work using just this one lens.

Can I call you a week from Thursday? I ain't got no class.

But about the picture: wonderful detail and use of depth of field. But the party is over. It's quiet.

Bob,
If you can't ask for a glass of wine in French, call me by all means. If it's more in depth than that , I've got Peter's phone number. Ring him up, he'll be glad to translate for you! Oh, I can also count to 100 in French if you need that for any reason.

Simple but says it all.
It is not only in landscapes pictures that one can find electrical wires... lol

No Virginia, it's a coincidence and more yellow to come on Wednesday.
I am not part of DP, I should have probably. Once a day simply "scares" me.

Virginia, lovely image. The much maligned 50mm lens, which used to be standard issue, is a wonderful tool. Especially, as you observe, in low light. Nicely done. Btw, Bibi, alerted me to your table/chair series. Fun images and nice to see something of a series rather than one-offs.
