Alabama Snowmobile
I did two years of
hard wintertime in Iowa and Wisconsin many years ago, and I haven't forgotten one minute of it. I'm not one of those
pie in the sky southerners who spend their whole winter yearning for some kind of snow. Let's just say I've been there, done that. Yesterday's snow was just like I like it. It snowed hard , made for some gorgeous photos, all the kids got to build snowmen and sled a little, the roads stayed clear, we didn't lose POWER, and it was over and done in a day!!!! What could be more perfect? Wayne asked me if we had snow plows in Birmingham. I told him we didn't have anything down here that started with the word SNOW. (Well we do.... Snow Cones). Birmingham is
very hilly and when it ices that pretty much shuts us right down. One day is plenty thank you. Now you have to look at a few more photos today cause I'm not through.
BLOG UPDATE: Please hop on over to my producer/manager Wayne's redesigned blog....Meandering in Lotus Land. Same great photos of Vancouver BC, just not always daily. My oh my, isn't he the smart one!
Just when you think it's time to sit outside on the porch...... it snows in Alabama!

Do you belong to the polar bear club, Virginia? No? chillin' on teh front porch, waving to all teh neighbors? Hmmm. We didn't get a lick, and I have seen snow here before. I used to live in the upper midwest and know what it means to be snowed in, don't want to deal with that. But a little sprinkle, for posterities sake, would have been lovely.
The cheque is in the mail V.
Yesterday here was the nicest spring day you can imagine, though they say it will be colder again.
I had to laugh at the tricycle...I am going to send you a photo this afternoon (my time) of something similar I took a little over a week ago.... :<)
Now that is a snowmobile I would have fun with!
belle série, j'aime beaucoup la deuxième avec la balançoire, j'aimerais bien m'assoir dessus et regarder la neige.
beautiful series, I like the second with the swing, I would m'assoir above and watch the snow.
A swing on the porch, that' s the South, like in movies, even with this white blanket!
And Virginia, I think it's time to buy a new bike...;-)
V,
Snowmobil is such a great interpretation!
And your "Mixed message" is a great inside/outside theme.

I just love the "Alabama snowmobile", LOL! The other shots are very atmospheric!
I love "Alabama Snowmobile" and "Mixed Message" as much for the content of the photos as the titles. Very funny!
I'm supposed to get together with Bob Crowe of STL Daily Photo today, but I don't know if that's going to happen. Darn snow.
I'm with you: spent 17 years living in Utah. I've had my fill of snow. While it's pretty for a day or so, I'm just as happy for it to go away.
D,C,- Oh I hope you two get that photo shoot. Darn is right!!
W.,
Yeah, that's what they all say.
PJ
Girl, you can forget snow in Pensacola. Not happening!
Alice,
I love saying, "la neige!" I got to say it a lot yesterday!
La neige est trés jolie.
The snowmobile looks perfect for a James Bond's movie lol
I agree with you, snow makes beautiful photos and yours are just gorgeous, but that's it for me! Lol! We had a little snow a couple of years ago in the Lisbon area (the last time was 52 years ago) and that's fine! :-)
Thank God the snow melted in a day because with that kind of snow mobile, it must not be easy to drive around!!! ;~))
All I could think is what a beautiful house you have, Ms Hepburn. And now that Tracy is back in the Vancouver hizzy, perhaps we'll return to some decent sparring.
Oh the sparring has already begun when his post wasn't up on time this morning!HA
I'm right there with you. I've lived in enough winter-y places to appreciate the mild winters down here in the south. One day of snow was plenty for me. And we didn't even get as much as you did!
These are all really wonderful photos.
Great snow shots. I love the twig covered in the white stuff.
I have always said "snow cone," but my two grandsons who have lived in north Jefferson County their entire lives say "shaved ice" -- a foreign language to me. Are they the same thing or different?
Grandpa in Georgia by way of Texas
Never mind, my dear, about being a little late .... I have had the day off and thought I would be here sooner, but I have been out walking the dogs and picking up branches and having a cup of tea ...and generally enjoying my "snow day"...even though most of it has melted away...HOWEVER...I have your great photos....what a joy!
Rhymes with,
Honey it's a snow cone to me and they are best if they come from one of those trucks that use to come around the neighborhood playing the same song over and over. Shaved Ice is like Italian Ices I think. ( Now some around here would pronounce it "Eye talian"!HA)
Firelight, That's the best kind of "snow day" off, when there's to snow and you can shop or whatever!!!
K,
I'm in awe of your photographs. Merci!!!!
ANYONE???
Earlier today, my posts would not load here, only the sidebar stuff. Anyone know why that happens and how to fix it? I went for a walk and when I came home it was ok. I need a Blogger hotline to whine to!!!
Talk to Petrea and Tash; they both seem to have had the same problem. Or maybe Tracy was messing with you.
AH,
Tracy messes with me all the time. I'd like to blame him for the snafu but that probably won't stick. We need to form a BLOGGER UNION and demand some rights around here. Does anyone have an email where we can protest????
Love the bike... and of course the rest of the pictures.
Hope this finds you well.

I had the sidebar ony problem too. The other B'ham as a kid had loads of snow. Lived in Scotand and it didn't snow once! The words Porch Swing just make me want to say things like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and why Miss Scarlet. I definitely have a romanticised view of fresh lemonade, mint julips and dresses made from curtains sitting on the Porch. The snow is welcomed for the images especially the lonesome twig. Love the matching image you and Wayne have. Handsome couple they were in the days when a star was exactly that.
Especially love the banner shot! Beautiful!
I love the picture of the porch swing with snow in the background. Looks like your neighborhood got a LOT!
We got snow today in NC and I'll feature it tomorrow (Tue.). If we get even half of the response you do, we'll be happening! To use your words, we milked the snow for all we could. At least 500 photos. We're set on GDP for the next year and a half! LOL

Such great photos! You'll always remember the snow storm of 2009. And don't worry, I think Blogger was out to lunch yesterday, as I had that same photo issue too.
Thanks Katie, Misery loves company.
Greensboro, We're looking forward to your photos!!!
RR,
Who knew Selma got snow!!!!
Wow, what a photo opportunity. These are so, so pretty and your header too...
Me thinks a nice hot sauna at 180 degrees, then a quick dip into that pool. Old Man Winter keeps invading our spaces.
Snow is a magician but sun is more powerful. It is necessary to enjoy as much as possible a spectacle which will not last enough...
I really like these snow pictures. You used the opportunity very well!
