We have visited Continental Bakery here and here. They bake the most wonderful breads and pastries and the shop is oozing with French charm. I enjoyed an enormous chocolat croissant and coffee here while photographing it yet again from every angle.
Three Very Special Treats for Me Yesterday: I picked up the phone and it was our Bibi from Belgrade calling! How wonderful to hear her voice and be able to have a long chat. We swapped books and websites and had a grand time learning more about each other. It just made my day! I also got to talk with my dear friend Mary in Cincinatti who is leaving for Paris on Monday. I am so thrilled for her and can hardly wait for her tales of all the cemeteries she will be visiting !! Lastly, for all of you who have been so interested in Lilly's progress, check out her blog and see for yourself!!!!!
( Alas, I have been homebound since my car is in the shop $$$$$ YIKES!)
Got Brie???

I'll bring some cheese from California and we'll have that bread eaten in no time! The top photo looks sooo French - are you already packed for May?!
I'll bring the wine........don't want to be driving then anyway. Taken care of! How wonderful that you had visits with Bibi and Mary! Love seeing Lilly - she's just amazing. So thrilled that it's all gone so well.
c'est simple et c'est beau. bravo
Nice bread, a real baguette! Thank you for introducing Lilly. She is so lovely...
Greetings from a very sunny Verona. xx
Your table photo is just gorgeous, and I'd love to plop myself down with an entire baguette and a hefty slice of Brie....or Chaource...if you haven't tried that one, you must.
GREAT talking to you yesterday!!!
The french touch ;)Is the bread as good as in france ?
Babzy, pretty darn close! They had some round loaves with olives in it that looked amazing. Might have to go back. Then there are the croissants........
All offers of wine and cheese are welcome. We'll go take over the place!
When I saw this on the portal I thought you'd posted one of your Paris photos to the wrong blog. Beautiful. Really captures the ambiance.
You definitively need some cheese to go with the bread... a little bit of loneliness in the first picture...
Aren't you the most popular girl in town. (I love chocolate croissants. Have only ever had them in Paris.)
That bread looks fabulous! I love the mood your photo evokes today!
This is my favouite bakery and restaurant!! Love it! Bien!
Artistic photo. Congratulations.
C'est beau! Love it, V. I'll bet the coffee is great.
Ann Marie,
Glad you do too. Welcome!!!
I just checked, sorry I only have Roquefort and Beaufort in the fridge! ;-) The photo of the chair and table is beautifully atmospheric.
Bravo Virginia, your tittle is perfect! And about bread, your photo and caption remind me of an old French advertising : "Du pain, du vin, du Boursin" (le Boursin is a sort of cheese).
Those French night classes have really paid off. The only French phrase I know is 'please wax my uncle's moustache'. And it doesn't really come in all that handy.
Your great captured baguettes getting me hungry. But I must wait till tomorrow evening. I have some settled habits. One is to start my weekend on Friday evening with baguette, brie or and goat's cheese, together with a bottle of Barbera d'Alba...
Cheers
Juergen
Oh my, V, reading the comments today made me almost as hungry as the bottom photo! So let me wrestle away whatever is left of that chocolat croissant.
I love the turned leg of that table, and the beautiful, beautiful lighting and colors in your top shot. When I saw another chair photo in the thumbnail view I thought you might be doing a chair and table series. . .well, I guess you are, even if it's not intentional. The "Chairs of Birmingham Cafes" might make a lovely arrangement on my wall :-).
How fun to talk to Bibi! You lucky. I've so enjoyed meeting some of the CDPB folks when I've traveled (Hi Katie, and yes, bring the brie!) I am still considering the trip, but it isn't looking likely to jibe with my daughter's special summer plans. She'll be grown up and gone before I know it, so my travel longings will mostly need to be on hold for awhile yet. That's one of things that makes having this community of blogging friends so much fun: I can have a peek at everyone's adventures, even if I can't tag along. I think I may adopt Jeurgen's Friday night ritual. That sounds so nice to look forward to each week.
-Kim
Kim,
I have more chairs and it could be a series in a heartbeat since the coffers are always low aound here! Sorry, the croissant was finished off yesterday with my morning coffee! Magnifique!
Jeurgen,
Love your Friday ritual, mind if I drop by some Friday night? I"ll bring the baguette!
Wayne,
La plume est sur la table, is actually my best line and it's about as handy as your phrase!
Alice,
Whew! and remind me to send you my boursin recipe. It's easy and delicious. Look at me, teaching the French about cheese!HA
Moi am dreaming of bread and wine and cheese for an early supper.
This crowd is having too much fun!
Obviously, I have learned all my from Miss Piggy!
i admire your courage in shooting such a shot. The beat up table and wall, it's great!
V, love the spiral center support of this well loved table! Also glad to here you and Bibi connected. I'm looking forward to meeting here sometime this summer in Seattle.
Enjoy your new leaves -:)
A good day all round then (apart from the car!)
katie, Judy, Cieldequimper- oh yes, your offers are accepted!!!!
Olivier, I could read your comment!! OUI!!!!
FireLight, I've added your wonderful blog to my list on the sidebar. Oh my , what a gift you have. And yes, this crowd is rowdy and we have a lot of fun.
Marley, thanks! It's fixed!!!
Chuck,
The spiral is what I loved too. When trying to choose the right shot, I was torn between the wall,
the tile top, the spindle etc. It was too much for me to get right at the same time!
KM,
You know I learned about all the peely paint stuff from your fabulous photos of Greenwich Village. YOU take a bow my friend.
Snap, you know I love it cause it's so French.
Thank you Virginia. Happy Spring to you.
I think our friends are doing fine. I talked to them a few days ago and they were happy. Thanks.
That was supposed to say....I learned all my FRENCH from Miss Piggy. Sheeesh, if I only had a brain.
Thank you, Miss Virginia! I am honored to be featured here!
Meead and Firelight, you need to get together with your friends in Auburn. A great MATCH!!!
V
Oy! Work is easing up a bit and I can get back here. This is a wonderful combination of geometric forms - planes, curves and screws - with subtle, satisfying color. You have a very good eye for detail.
And as for that bread - we leave for Paris two weeks from today. Je ne peux pas attendre.
Bob , I can hardly wait to see your Paris photos. It will be a photographer's buffet!
I'll take the table with the baguette, merci beaucoup!
Oh-la-la! Very french indeed.
I love the way you framed it.
Hi Virginia, what a powerfull shot, it has loads of character well done.
Oh, I love the twisty turned leg on the table! Very masterful and elegant!
Opps, wrong blog!
j'aime le cadrage et l'angle de cette photo
Love the photo with the chair & table. I've collected a couple of photos - one at Napa & one in Ohio that said - this is a V. photo. I'll send them to you.
(PS - I'm jelous that you got a call from Bibi! That's really great. :)
The blog about Lily is so touching. I know this is going to sound a little trite but it's also such a great example of how powerful blogs can be.
K,
Thank you. You are absolutely right, the blogging community is powerful. I appreciate your comments and you wonderful photographs as well.
V
