Dozens of darling Dorothys !
Saturday evening I had the pleasure of taking photographs at the
Birmingham Children's Theatre's first fundraiser sponsored by their Junior Board. Held at the beautiful Southern Progress building in Homewood, this was a family event
. An Evening in Oz ....think adorable kiddos dressed to the nines in gingham Dorothy dresses, lots of red, sparkly shoes, scarecrows, lions, Munchkins, and many, many Glenda's resplendent in their pink gowns. The Junior Board didn't miss a trick. They had creative crafts, the most elaborate facepainting and kid appropriate food, including a self serve "Pixie Stix" machine that insured a sugar high from now to next year! (My grandson hasn't come back to earth yet.) The theatre's talented actors, plus other local singers, mesmerized the audience with fabulous music from the play and everyone had a really good time! Sadly the cuts in local and state funding have made this a necessary way for this fabulous community theatre to keep the doors open . Please go to their website
here, if you feel you can make a donation.

Just look at all those ruby slippers...What an absolute delight. I love the way you've caught their lovely faces in the first..
belle photo de la troupe des enfants. un spectacle que j'aurais bien aimé voir et prendre en photo.
nice photograph of the troops of the children. a show which I would have liked well to see and to take a photo.
I so love amateur theater, done by big or small. More often than not, productions are top-notch.
We all need a pair of ruby slippers!
These are outstanding, V. Look at those faces!
I want these shoes and these socks, please...!
I must say that you did a masterful job in taking these photographs. I have not seen what I call "a bad one" in the bunch.
"Cutissimo"!
Such beautifully designed costumes! And precious faces.
The bane of my mother's life her being a Dorothy. On the cuteometre off the scale. Now I'll take a pair of the ruby slipper to go with Wayne fisnet wellies(gumboots). Well done fo getting him to reconsider.
B, If you think these are sending the "cuteometer" off the scale, wait till tomorrow....The Faces of Night in Oz coming up.
The fundraiser could not have picked a better subject.
What a wonderful world!
Where's Tracey? I expected him to slap you around for this.
but I must say, can you shoot 'em, or can you shoot 'em!
AH,
Oh Tracy's probably not up this early. Actually I like to let him feel like he's "working" so I let him help pick some for tomorrow's post. If his choices jive with mine , I use em! He doesn't know that though.
B,
We're going to have to fight over those gum boots on W's post today! I'd like to see the two of us in them wouldn't you?HA
Laurie and ALice,
THere were ruby slippers everywhere. I never took so many "feet shots"!HA
Your wonderful photos remind me to visit my grandchildren soon.
Juergen
Virginia, will tomorrow's photos be ones of the painted faces? Can I link my site to them or can I talk to you about getting a copy of some of the photos? I am the facepainter from the event. Thanks,
Kristin
Kristin you may email me (click my profile for the address) and I'll be happy to help you out. Oh yes, two of your fabulous painted faces will be featured tomorrow!!!!
How fabulous! They are so correctly dressed and those perfect Judy Garland shoes. And was Toto, the dog there? Just thought I'd ask....
I love this play... beautiful photos, Virginia.
...and those red shoes..!
What an absolute treat to see these darling Dorothies! The blue gingham really takes me back! My mother sewed for her three girls, and there was always gingham!
NEWS FLASH! Tune in NPR's All Things Considered today to catch a great story on the Sloss Furnace in Birmingham! I have just heard it on a Georgia station!
Love the wizard of Oz theme, populated by the cutest munchkins. And what a wonderful opportunity.
Hey, I heard someone on NPR today refer to Birmingham as the Magic City. And here I thought you made it up.
I got an email today asking if I'd like to shoot the St. Louis Improv. Be there or be square, I say.
Bob, it's called the Magic City because it grew so quickly due to the iron production. I"ll be you heard the Sloss Furnaces show. One of my viewers told me about it but I had français tonight and missed it. If you search Sloss here, I've done several posts of it.
Ah yes... I 've dreamed for so long of the ruby slippers...
The last two photos are absolutely stunning.
I like the dresses ; I'm sure they were home made by fairies...
