For Birminghamians, the City Federal Building is a well known landmark. Built in 1913, the former Jefferson County Savings and Loan building was the tallest in the southeast. It was renamed the City Federal in 1963. This 27 story terra cotta faced building remains the tallest neoclassical skyscraper in the south. Today, it has been preserved and condominiums are for sale right here.

But there are no balconies! No access to the outside. I would suffocate.
That is an amazingly love price. The Australian dollar is about 0.89c US. But still, a two bedroom unit in the heart of Sydney would cost about &800,00. Bit of a difference. But why?

I'm happy to learn that B'ham cares enough to preserve this building. We've got one of these outside my office window, the Wainwright Building from 1890, designed by Louis Sullivan. The mix of history and architecture enriches a city.
By the way, I am not a weirdo magnet. I just like interesting people and am more forward than some in going out to meet them.

Thank you everyone. This is indeed a Birmingham landmark that we all treasure. I took these Sunday at sunset in very cold, windy conditions with numb fingers. Thank goodness when I downloaded the photos they warmed me right up!!!
