It's that time again. The first of every month is City Daily Photo Theme Day. This month our theme is Passageways. I love this day each month. How fun to see the many ways CDP bloggers all over the world take the theme and run with it.
My photo today is from a passageway on historic Morris Avenue in downtown Birmingham. Rust and grunge make for an interesting photograph sometimes I think!
Merci to my friend Daryl up in NYC. My faithful Theme Day reminder amie!

Rust and grunge do indeed make for a wonderful theme day photo in this case! I love the curvy path of that water mark among all those right angles. Very industrial/urban design chic (the kind of place my husband was always looking to buy a loft in :-). Hey, what's with the loose bricks? I could just see kids chucking them through nearby windows aor taking them up that staircase for some high-up high-jinx. :-)
on dirait un passage oublié par le temps, tres belle photo
Tsk tsk tsk, VJ. Rust and grunge ALWAYS make for an interesting photograph. Well, in my eyes anyways.
Take for example your shot today! That strong line upwards bind the lot together. As for the loose bricks - I would have been soo tempted to pilfer a few ... you didn't by any chance ... non? ... oui? ...
Cool!!! Love the rust and gunge, and watch out for that first (or last) step; it's a dilly!
Very nice, V. You know though, I've got to wonder about the pile of bricks on the ground at the right ... is the wall falling down, or is this preparatory to a certain Edgar Allen Poe tale?
Superb photograph of the perfect place for a thriller.
Let's hear it for rust and grunge. It's all in the composition.
Hard to imagine going up there in a time of snow.
I see a notion of time in this picture.
yes makes for a great image. Expect to see a wild cat leap out any moment
The area prompts the imagination!
Hi!
Nice photo, it looks very dirty and old...
Greetings
Yvi
What a marvellous choice. I thought, looking in the portal, we were in France, but see this is metal and rusty. V interesting all the same.
It sure does! The textures in your photo are gorgeous! Even if the place itself isn't.
Shame on me! Once again, I forgot.
Cool,- I like it a lot.
I really love this image. great shot and great choice for theme day
Great composition -- and perfect for a 'vertical shot'.
My type of image, grunge, rust, textures, all perfect. The stairway is intriguing.
«Louis» always forgets to sign up for theme day - but he enjoys touring the blogosphere to visit those who do participate.
Like several of the others, «Louis» sees that pile of bricks as being potentially menacing...
Be that as it may, they add to the texture and interest of the image!
True Confessions: I've had this photograph for almost two years now. I took it in my second photography class. My classmates had an interesting discussion on where I should crop it. I think I stuck to my guns! And this was taken through the b ars of a locked iron gate.
Why have I never posted it till now? I thought it didn't portray a very positive image of my city. Maybe I was wrong, but it seemed to fit today 's theme.
I love seeing what y'all come up with. Yours, of course, is absolutely unique.
This is superb! Rust and grunge is right. I hope you took someone very large and frightening with you when you went to take the shot!
My pleasure.
And that is truly a wonderful staircase and photo!!!!!!
Happy March
GREAT SHOT!!!!!! It is not going to make Birmingham look bad, it's more the opposite!! It shows that Birmingham has character!!!!
AGAIN GREAT SHOT!!!!!!!

EXQUISITE - I love that you could label it with almost any city name and it would be believable.
Very sweet that you were protective of Birmingham's image - you are a true ambassador mon amie!
I love it!
And how you have run with it! This is an excellent image and a terrific entry for the theme.
Very cool, industrial, earthy photo! Bravo for your theme day passageway photo, V!
Now that's just incredible! Awesome interpretation of the theme, kudos!!
You think? Rust and grunge are always great material. Otherwise, those of us in beat-up post-industrial cities would be out of luck. What I really like about this is the stairs. Most of the passageway pictures go away into the distance. This one goes up. Nice work.
What a wonderful, atmospheric interpretation for theme day. I love the palette and all the possibilities for that stairway.
This is great staircase and passageway.
Sydney - City and Suburbs
Now that's a passageway!
Love this! You're on one heck of a roll, the grass below is gorgeous too.
This photo has absolutely amazing atmosphere!
Well V., I'm late too, but have to tell you I love your choice. It's great to see the signs of time on this wonderful pic!
That is absolutely gorgeous.
Fantastic photo. What a great find. I'm inexplicably drawn to grungy rusty things.
Sorry for the delay in commenting but this is one of the best passage photos I've seen for this theme day.
