My faithful Paris Through My Lens readers, are pretty obsessive about the divine, the delicately scrumptious French macaron. Wikipedia states that the words macaron and macaroon are interchangeable, but don't mistake these for the coconut macaroon that we find here in the U.S. Confusing isn't it! Well here in Birmingham there's no Gerard Mulot or Ladurée so what's a girl to do when she just has to have one? Luckily Continental Bakery in English Village usually offers three flavors, and I snapped this photo just before I enjoyed mine.
BTW, I'm so pleased that my dear blog friend and artiste Shell Sherree down under in Brisbane, has immortalized my photo of the Gerard Mulot macarons in a delightful watercolor illustration here!
P.S. It's macaron day at Ladurée on Paris Through My Lens today as well!

I don't care how you spell it (I'm a two -o girl), but I just love macaroons. I am refraining from licking my computer screen.
LES MEILLEURS MACARONS se trouvent à NANCY (ville de l'est de la France) chez les Soeurs Macarons, ils sont délicieux, je ne peux jamais résister
Yummy....
I came back from Paris 3 weeks ago...
I remember.
Nice shot.
Virginia, you are determined to torment poor ol' «Louis», aren't you?!
Oh this looks delicious...
*yammi*
There's a Laduree in Monaco now - in the Metropole centre. Always someone - many - buying!
You just gave me a craving for one (or two).
What do you mean just have to have ONE?
The prices in Birmingham almost make a trip worth the while.
My word verification is 'cycled'. Perhaps a hint that I should get out the bicycle if I plan on eating a lot of these!
I'm not a fan of macaroons, but your picture makes them look lovely.
You may have mine. Lovely to look at but a taste I will pass
You've made these look scrumptious! So glad there are no calories or fat grams transferred online!!!
A delicious photo. You truly make them look divine. Could you send some up here to Vermont please? I'll trade you for a bit of maple syrup...
sugar!
Ladurée macarons are heavenly but have you tasted those of Pierre Hermé ?
I'm so backwards. Still haven't tried one.
Does each one of the flavoured ones has a difference in appearance compared to the others?
Yummy! You just ate one?
Thérèse,
I think they each have a different color but not all. I'm no authority! I had a caramel one in 2008 and loved it so much, I usually just buy those. At Laudrée we each got a plate with a choice of three or four so I tried some others. I will say if they are fresh then they are delicious. They should be a tiny bit crunchy on the outside and the filling should be moist. If they aren't fresh or made well......chewy. BLahhhh!
BTW - «Louis» is daffy about your daffodil photos in the masthead...
hello... hapi blogging... have a nice day! just visiting here....
MMMMMMM. ME WANT COOOOKIEEEE.
But then I suppose that these are to cookies as Gevrey-Chambertin is to that stuff I drink when I come home from work. Don't have much of a sweet tooth, though. The old man was in the sugar industry etc. etc.
At 1st glance, I thought maybe they were hot-cross-buns. Look 'roons deliciously rich.
75 cents each? Hm, I might need a word with our local French pastry chef!! Just kidding ~ I'll take them however I can get them. Another luscious pic from you of the delightful macaron, dear V!
je ne sais pas comment je les appellent mais j'en veux bien quelques uns
Thank goodness for google! I visited Paris about a month ago, and while I enjoyed the macarons I had there, I didn't think anything of them... until two weeks after I got home. I've been experiencing withdrawal symptoms of drug-addiction proportions, for those delicious macarons... I just have to have another! So thanks to your post I'll be visiting Continental TOMORROW!
