Sorry, I couldn't resist. This was taken from the stone bridge on Shades Creek Parkway in Mt. Brook recently. Sometimes I take my camera along on my walk. I don't know much about beavers etc. so I'm just guessing they built it. Surely there's a dam expert out there!
Definitely a beaver dam!!! I remember going on river hikes at Camp River Glen as a Girl Scout and coming upon these wonderful creations!!! Even saw a beaver or two nearby!!!

Looks like beavers work to me. There used to be a beaver dam in a pond near here.
Damn ! What a great picture...I zoomed in and believe I saw a beaver in a hammock relaxing...so I'll say beavers are responsible. :P
