Serving Others..

" If you can't feed 100 people, then feed just one."
Mother Teresa

Monday evening, I joined my Independent Presbyterian Guild members as we served dinner to the women and children guests at First Light Women's Shelter. My granddaughter Eva asked to come with us.  Eva donated some of her birthday money on Christmas Eve to this special place.  This night she got to see first hand what First Light is all about. She helped us serve pizza and then handed out ice cream.  It filled my heart that she was so comfortable and eager to serve.

It's very sad that all the people don't have the same opportunities in life.
But it's good to know that there are others who care with them, specially when they are so young.

She's got good genes ...

Like Daryl I agree that she has good genes and a kind soul that has passed through the generations...you're both kind-hearted souls.

Lovely, tender image, but we have to keep organized so that some of us do this day after day, night after night. The work can be shared but we can't just do parachute charity. Looks like this place has it covered. Good.

Bob,
First Light does have it covered thankfully. Of course more funding is needed but I'm so grateful that my church and many others in town support this place. As you know, in my city and yours.....it's not nearly enough.

The innocence of the young...she is learning about the world and all of it's vagaries...

Kathy,
She was so at ease. Much more than many adults in this situation. I"m hoping we can do this again, along with more of my grandchildren.

V, I think that's because children aren't judgemental like adults tend to be. Good for her - her Christmas donation....and now serving. She's got a good heart - just like her Mumsie!

The light in this shot is perfect, and Eva is standing right in it. And I mean that on several levels. :-).
