Chanterelles, The New Kid On The Block

I don't know about you, but I grew up with button mushrooms. Period.  Now, thanks to Alabama farmers at the Pepper Place Market, I'm getting to know some new varieties, like these golden chanterelles!  I'll admit the turquoise containers added to their appeal through my lens.

And they taste very good. I remember them from my youth when we were plucking them in the woods. Now you don't find them anymore in the Netherlands and we have to import them from Poland or Russia.

My son has tried growing mushrooms. He's doing something wrong, but we can't figure out what.

Are you sure they're not poisonous??? And the turquoise containers just some part of a nefarious plot to rid the planet of people interested in interesting, organic foods???

You are absolutely right. The colour of the container couldn't be better!
