Clinging to Summer

Autumn hasn't found its way down to Alabama just yet.  Oh the days are shorter, the kids have been back in school for over a month now, SEC football is at fever pitch,  and Halloween mania has hit every shop in town , but the weather still feels like summer!  This outrageously gorgeous bucket of zinnias caught my eye at the Pepper Place on Saturday.  A sure sign that summer's not ready to pack her grip and make way for fall anytime soon.   Why,  it's still flip-flop weather!!!  So how's the weather in your part of the world?

The Tune du Jour is a good one -  "Summertime" by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.  You will want to sit back and listen to every minute of this.

Here, the weather is sunny but more and more chilly in the morning and evening.

Look at those defiant zinneas!

We're being lulled into a false sense of Autumn here in the Los Angeles area. Nights are in the low 60s and the days aren't getting much above 76. But I know our Indian Summer heatwave is not far away. September is usually the hottest time of the year here.

Beautiful bucket of zinnias and photo as well!
After a very strange August, September is just great and summer seems to be going here too, so Ella and Louis fit perfectly today! :-)
When are you going to Paris?
Thank you for your comments, Virginia.

I am ready for some autumn. Ike was in the sky yesterday, a little, pushing away some of the humidity.

Officially some six days left of summer!

Summer has tough fight with autumn also here in Paris, but yesterday it had a good day! (Let's see later about the Paris November weather!)

Thanks for Louis and Ella!

Love zinnias!!

Please excuse my cut and paste this morning. . . I have been up to my ears with school work, so commenting has been at a premium lately. I did want you to know I stopped by, though!

I'm in Montreal today and it's raining at the moment but it's muggy here.

It looks like it's going to be about 29° C in Vancouver for the next couple of days and this seems hot for the middle of September. In Vancouver hot is hot, cold is cold and wet is wet, humidity is not really a factor.

Ah, a pretty bucket of flowers! 46 drgrees F this morning here in the north metro. THe basil is looking terrible on our deck. 32 degrees is when we put our flip flops away. ;)

HA, D.L. I can laugh now but when I lived in Wisconsin, I did not find 46 degree weather in September humorous. Bless your heart!

I think you know how I feel about zinnias. They are sometimes difficult to photograph depending on the light and the number of them. If there are many they seem "saturated" and kind of dreamy looking and when solo or jsut a few they stand out so clearly. Maybe it's the complicated depth of field and/or the digital processing??????

Love the zinnias!

We have the same kind of weather over here. It's still hot and humid as heck - although it has been cooling down in the mornings and evenings. Soon we will probably even be able to sleep with the windows open again and turn off the clim. One thing I do like about the extended summer is wearing sandals and open shoes. I hate closed shoes and I am relishing every day with my comfy sandals!

Atrocious! Rain, rain and more rain.
Autumn, like the summer is a washout.
Poor baby(my camera)is not allowed go out to play in moisture. These Zinnias are zinging in gorgeous colours. Sigh! Lovely rendition of the song.

My nosey question today. I notice some parts of America say Autumn like the UK. I thought it was all Fall over there.Ready to be educated.

Well I can't speak for the entire USA, but I use both terms interchangeably. Never have thought about it really. Maybe other visitors can give up an opinion, B. Sorry about your weather. Does make it hard to get out and take photographs.

Very nice! The zinnias and the galvanized bucket bring back memories of being raised on a farm, where I saw lots of both. :-)

What a beautiful bucket of flowers, V. The color contrast between the bucket's metal and the flowers makes the composition of this photograph.

Hello! I've seen your comments on many of the blogs I visit and I finally got round to visiting you!

I love your photography. And this one is perfect. The strong colours of the flowers and the zinc bucket - perfect!

Glad to have all of you new visitors. A warm Alabama welcome to you. Please come back and visit often.

Marley is one of little proteges. He's getting quite good with the old camera work now. I have noticed the mix of Autumn and Fall used on blogs and was curious as it's just another one of those things where we are lead to believe that it's always fall your way. Donthca love blogging. You learn so much.

I have learned a lot from all of you. Babooshka the rant tomorrow is dedicated to you. Someone that lets us all know where you stand!

That is an excellent photo of a bucket of zinnias.

We are experiencing the same weather too. It was beautiful and cool last week but it deteriorated into a mess on Sunday. Eck!

I think your pictures are awesome.

I too find zinnas do well here, I live in the Birmingham area and nice to see downtown with you. I rarely come down and you share this city beautifully. I have enjoyed my tour of the 365 days tonight and will return when my eyes will stay open.

Smiles, cyndi

So cute and colorful I am biaised, I have the exact same bucket which you reminded me that I garnished it with zinnias last year. This goes on my to-do list for the next trip to the farmers market.

Eliane,
THanks for coming by. Go forth and fill that bucket!
