An Evening at Oak Hill

Stuart has some great volunteers that don period costumes. I liked this lady vanishing off down the lane.

Thursday evening I carefully packed the camera, the 300 mm lens, the @%$# tripod etc. for a much anticipated evening at Oak Hill Cemetery for  the "Shoot the Moon" event. Historian Stuart Oates planned this great event.  Oak Hill is Birmingham's oldest city cemetery and overlooks downtown Birmingham. I've been several times but not at night.  I had former students and photography friends meeting me there,  and I was very excited.  Daughter Melissa and Eva tagged along and we got there around 5:30 so I could find the best spot.  I got this shot and then............"replace battery pack".  I had just changed it yesterday but ......well......sometimes that happens.  I didn't get any moon shots, but I had a great time scoping out good views and angles for my friends. (it fulfilled my need to be bossy).  I'm hoping some of them will share their work and be my guest photographers.  Lesson learned for the teacher.

The Woman In Black.

This is an evocative shot V.

Trivia note: The Woman In Black has been on stage at the Fortune Theatre since 1989. I don't think it had been running for too many years when I saw it.

You've got a 300mm lens??

Oi, too bad about that.
But the shot in this post is wonderful.

What a haunting shot this makes. I love it!

VJ, you KNOW that ghosts live in cemeteries! So perhaps that explains the dead battery pack. They didn't want their pictures taken.

Anyhow, so glad you got this great shot. Haunting!

The historical society does this at Linwood Cemetery in Columbus, GA too. They call it the Ramble. Be on the lookout for ghosts.

Interesting shot.

Nicely done and in time for the season!

Finally, a few free moments. This is pretty spooky. Why should Death stalk the cemetery? It could do better business out on the street.

You are the only person who got that my lead picture today is supposed to be funny. Proud of ya.

Neat shot! Sounds like a fun event. Sorry about your battery issue. That's nice, though, that you invited others along and can have guest bloggers. What time of evening did you take this?

This looks more like a time machine shot than a photo.

The last time my battery went dead I went home early, completely forgetting I always keep a second one in my bag.
