Leaving Stones

Last week I visited Knesseth Isreal-Beth-El Cemetery,  one of two Jewish cemeteries in Enon Ridge, north Birmingham.  It is a Jewish tradition when visiting a grave, to leave a stone or pebble to show honor for the deceased by the visitor.

A special thank you to my photography cohort in crime, Michael Anderson, for taking me here and other fascinating places around Birmingham, I've not been.

Nice old weathered tombstones. Nice shot, too.
May they rest in peace.

A lovely tradition. I've seen this on Dina's blog.

Beautiful shot.

When I first started writing my manuscript, I heard that tradition among Jewish graves, and incorporated it into the story.

its definitely a tradition one always honors .. except my mom, she always said that the headstone was heavy enough ... when we visit her grave we always leave little metal hearts in place of the small rocks ..

I had never seen this in the US. C and I first discovered it in the old Jewish cemetery in Prague. Quite moving.
