I'm never really sure when the Dogs Days begin, but I think I'm close.  These boys were having a ball at Railroad Park!

CDP Theme Day - Pedestrian Crossing

It's the first of the month and by now, you know the drill.  Today hundreds of City Daily Photobloggers around the world are posting their version of a common theme.  How do we get this monthly theme you ask? Well we all vote. I'll admit I DID NOT vote for this one and as of yesterday morning, I had nothing to offer until.... I attended the Dance Walk at Avondale Park in the afternoon.  Bingo!

A Friendly Push

Newly renovated Avondale Park, the perfect place to enjoy a swing with a friend.

Open For Business

Birmingham's newly renovated Avondale Park is open for business!  I stopped by this week to have a look around.  The ducks and geese were happily swimming, day school kiddos were crawling all over the playground equipment and people were walking or just sitting on a bench enjoying the springlike weather. Over on the baseball fields, workers were madly preparing the fields for the upcoming baseball season.  The city of Birmingham did a great job bringing this park, which has been around since the mid 1880's, back to life.

Summer Showers...

are frequent this time of year in Birmingham.  I'll bet the kiddos at Triangle Park think a "wet seat" is a whole lot of fun!

Eddie

Sunday while I was showing Daryl around downtown,  I had to stop and show her the Eddie Kendricks Memorial Park on 4th Avenue North.  This lovely urban park is a fitting tribute to the Temptation's lead singer,  and Birmingham is proud to call  him our own.  Artist Ronald McDowell was the perfect choice for capturing Eddie doing what he did best.

Of course I have a tune for you today. I've chosen my all time favorite song!

Believe It or Not

We are in the home stretch till Halloween, but here in B'ham, the kiddos ( and a few adults) are still dipping their toes in the clean and inviting streams and ponds at Birmingham's new Railroad Park.  I don't blame them. The water features here are well planned, bio filltered and just too inviting to pass up.  Come on in, the water's still fine in Alabama !

Exploring Railroad Park

The opening of Railroad Park brought many families out this fine day to have a look around and .. kick up some pinestraw! These little guys had fun in this area made entirely with the original hand cast bricks and cobblestone that were wisely kept during the excavation process.  Throughout the park they have used these  as borders, barriers etc.  Good for you RR Park designers!

Swing Me Daddy!

Yesterday I took a walk around Birmngham's newest urban park, Railroad Park. Located just south of Birmingham's downtown, it is 18 acres of greenspace, overlooking the railroad tracks that run just north of it. It is a welcome addition to our downtown area that needs it so very much. Today, the children's playground with its nice recycled surface. More to come.
