Magic City Art Connection

It's been a few years since I was able to get down to Linn Park for the Magic City Art Connection. It's really my favorite art event and this year it didn't disappoint. I always head to the kids' area and this year this interactive display caught my eye.

Today is the last day to take advantage of one of Birmingham's most fabulous art shows, the Magic City Art Connection. It is one of my favorites and so many of my dear, artistic, creative friends are showing their work. There are also many creative venues for the kids, shown here!

It's fall y'all..... but it's really not

The truth is that our city has been in  a long drought. Very few trees are able to put out their wonderful autumn show that Birmingham loves. Almost everything as dried up and leaves fallen. In addition, it's as wam  here as it was in September, making for a faux fall! Thankfully, I have a deep pocket of fall photos in Birmingham, This was taken at our lovely Linn Park downtown, a few years ago.

We're not having much of a colorful autumn this year due to the drought, so I've dipped into the archives. Today, Linn Park's monument honoring Mary A. Calahan, former principal of Powell School in downtown Birmingham.

The Good Old Days

Sadly they don't make libraries like this anymore. The former Birmingham Library downtown, the Linn Henley Research Library is still a beautiful place with lovely painted detailing and stunning murals. I was down there a few weeks ago for a meeting and it brought back memories of meeting high school friends there to "study"many years ago.

The Magic City Art Connection series continues today.  These are two of my favorite photos from precious shows.  There is always a stage for dancing.  I spend a lot of time there.

Creative Hands

I love, love, love, the Magic City Art Connection.  It's one of Birmingham's finest art shows. You must know by now that I'm drawn to the children's clay activities.  They thankfully put the tables up under a fine magnolia tree with this fabulous light. I could stay there all day. If you are in the Birmingham area, the show starts today and ends on Sunday!

Downtown Reflections

The mirror like facade of the Park Place Tower reflects the lovely Linn Park, downtown.

Waiting

Sitting all day, waiting for interested customers is one of the hardest things about showing your work at an art show.  This artist's silhouette caught my eye as she relaxed under the shade tree during the Magic City Art Connection last weekend.

Glass Art

Georgia artist Lisa Mote's (#343) glass art was gorgeous with the afternoon sun hitting her colorful work. Magic City Art Connection is still in full swing. Head on down to Linn Park today for the final  day of the 30th annual show!

Magic in the Park

This weekend Birmingham's Linn Park comes alive with art and music when the 30th Magic City Art Connection gets into full swing.  My favorite spot is the children's art area, of course.

Spring Is Just Around The Corner

When you see these fabulous tulip trees around town, you know spring is on it's way to Alabama!. I shot this from Linn Park last Saturday while photographing the Mercedes Marathon hoopla.

Chinese New Year

Saturday Birmingham celebrated the Year of the Snake at Boutwell Auditorium.  Thankfully I didn't find any snakes at Linn Park, just this colorful dragon!

Dominoes in the Park

Last Sunday afternoon, there were spirited games of chess and dominoes in progress at the pavilion at Linn Park downtown.

Killer!

A large group of high school students were gathered at Linn Park on Sunday afternoon for a photo shoot.  The young ladies were wearing some of the most amazing high heels I have ever seen in Birmingham.  These are but a few!

It Is A Hammered Dulcimer

At the Magic City Art Connection, I had to stop and take some photos,  when I spotted this sign. Apparently folks, even here in Alabama, ask a lot of questions about the hammered dulcimer. Now you know!

Cobblestones

These lovely cobblestones are used in the "streams" at Linn Park in downtown Birmingham. This day they were dry. The afternoon sun made some nice shadows.

One sunny Saturday afternoon, these nice gentlemen allowed me to horn in on their chess game at Linn Park.

CDP Theme Day - Fountains

Boy the first of the month rolls around quickly. I ALMOST let this theme day get past me.  Luckily my friend Terry and I went roaming around downtown last weekend and I caught this photo of the fountain in the center of Linn Park backlit with the late afternoon sun.

Budding Artistes

The Magic City Art Connection devotes one huge area of Linn Park just for the kids. I've shared photos of the dancing here. Today a young potter and the tools of the trade for the tiny painters in the crowd.
