Springalingadingdong

Saturday was a great day to be in English Village! Thanks to Carole Griffin, owner of the fabulous Continental Bakery and Chez Lulu, the day was spent celebrating Spring in a variety of ways. There was the Seed and Feed Marching Band ( In a variety of outrageous dress), hula hooping, fairies floating around, a Bread Toss, May Pole and the grande finale...the beheading of Marie Antoinette. You had to be there.

Treadwell's Barber Shop........ a Mountain Brook Tradition

I love featuring the  businesses in my city that have been here for decades. Well Treadwell's goes back 50 years in Mountain Brook. Thankfully, they are still in business.

Moonlighting

Ev

I'm not going to rant about how I feel about decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving, but ...... everywhere you look, Christmas decorations are going up.  I'll bet after a very long day wrapping lights around every tree in Mountain Brook, this guy's going to leave the tree lighting at home up to his wife!

Birmingham Rouge - Legends of Motorsports

One Red Balloon

A while back I first featured photos here of Mountain Brook's Legends of Motorsports Event. You knew I'd find some rouge!

Don't worry about me. I'll just take myself for a walk!

Spring-a-Ling-a-Ding-Dong!

With a catchy name like that how could this event not be a blast??? Well it lived up to its name. This street party in Mountain Brook's English Village all began last year when Continental
Bakery and Chez Lulu Restaurant owner Carole Griffin dreamed it all up to celebrate the bakery's 25th anniversary. It was so well received that she decided to do it again this year. Area merchants as well as artist and vendors joined in and made it a great event for the community.

How can I describe it? Well, try and imagine sweet little fairies decked out in tutus and wings, a brass band replete with pink feathers, a Chicken Lady (with chickens) , giant papier mâché puppets, a bread toss, hula hoop contest, oh and did I mention the mock beheading of Marie Antoinette? I have a bucket full of photos but today, let's salute Carole who was the absolute star of the show!

The Old Mill

Fondly referred to as "The Old Mill", this private home in Mountain Brook started out as a tearoom and clubhouse for social functions back in the day. Today, it still draws a lot of admirers. Since I pass it each day on my walk, I decided to finally stop and take a few photos!

Tea Party

Tuesday, I ran in to Village Press in Mountain Brook Village to buy some cards. They have a terrific selection of cards, invitations, and stationery, not to mention a helpful and friendly staff. What a pleasant surprise to find that they were having a tea party for their patrons. My cute little friend Elizabeth, was having a grand time sampling the pink lemonade and cookies while her mom was shopping! I was able to talk her into just one more cookie so I could take her picture.

Play Ball!

We've been to Rickwood Field on many occassions ( here, here and here!).  I would say this is the last post,  but I can't be sure I won't go back and get some new photos.  By now you all know it's America's Oldest Baseball Park,  and I guess the seats are starting to look a bit worn.  But come to think of it,  shiny, new seats would just be wrong!

*  Yesterday I had some clever viewers who tried to guess where that photo was taken.  The answer is .....Mountain Brook - Birmingham's most upscale suburb.  It was shot behind two recent posts: Charlotte Woodson Antiques and Gilchrist!!!  I'm including a photo of the block where the alley is located.

Tout au bout!

On Monday, I  posted a photo of the beginning of the walking  trail at Jemison Park in Mountain Brook.  Alice of Arradon, FR Daily Photo requested, "tout au bout".  Since I am writing this in the evening, and all of my French blogging friends are fast asleep halfway around the globe, I am going to attempt to translate:  at the end!  Excusez moi if it's not quite right.  When this post goes up,  I will be snoozing,  and they will be at their computers and will hopefully offer corrections if needed.  Regardless, here's the lovely end of the trail.  Not the Pont Neuf or the Seine, but a photogenic stone bridge with Shades Creek slowly running through it.  So there you have it- a lovely and peaceful ending to a glorious autumn walk this morning!

The Tune du Jour is one of my very favorite soundtracks... "Prince of Tides".
You might want to stay a while and hear it to the end.  You're welcome to you know!

Shady Afternoon

This lovely creek runs through  a lush and scenic walking trail in  Robert Jemison Park,  in the suburb of Mountain Brook.   I am planning to use the "green" ecologically friendly version as my new banner photo but decided to fool around with this one a little.  I pulled out all the stops didn't I!  This should please the Photoshop junkies in the group.

The Tune du Jour is by request from Babooshka - "Creeque Alley" by who else....The Mamas & The Papas.  Try and picture Babooska singing the lead and moi playing the tambourine,  of course.  Tune requests are welcome anytime.
