Step Inside

Lovely isn't it?   Feels like we're in Paris.  If you can't travel to France,  let France come to you,  is my motto.   Today a little wine and a look around this very French bistro right here in Birmingham.  Tomorrow,  you foodies will want to come back for the piece de resistance - "La Tarte".    I haven't heard from mes amies  since they arrived in France.   I am sure they are painting and enjoying the French countryside, but more than likely catching forty winks!

Let me also  say  merci beaucoup to the management and staff  at Chez Fonfon  who have been exceptionally kind to let me come back time and again to take phtographs.  Frankly, if I didn't want to wear out my welcome, I would be knocking on their door on a weekly basis.

The Tune du Jour is "La Vie en Rose" sung by an American legend, Louis Armstrong.

Virginia, after I unexpectedly arrive on your doorstep and we check out all those books at the Museum of memories you posted about the other day, we're going to have to stop at this bistro for a little refreshment...

You really know how to make Birmingham look irresistible! These are beautiful shots.

Looks really nice and inviting! (Maybe some real wine glasses missing on the tables?) The bottles seem to be nicely chilled!

frenchie, frenchie, frenchie... :P i'll say it a million times :) lol
though it does sound kinda... demeaning??
love the images though - particularly with the wines! does not look like something i'd find round the corner.
i love that classical, elegant feel to everything french - where things are perfectly designed but don't stink of being overworked or overthought. just like your photography :) nice job

I like your post, Virginia. It is remarkable how some restaurants strive to look like something and some are successful and others are failures. The Chinese restaurants here, where we live, are as varied as the people who eat there and none are really like the real Chinese restaurants, starting with the food.

Perfect, perfect, perfect! The warm tones, the lighting...AH!
This restaurant is beautiful! I agree with Abe, they have achieved so much more by making everything so understated, than those places that are so "Look at me trying to be..."

And Virginia, perfect music for today!

Picture perfect, now for the review! I wonder now if they will hire you as their website photographer. They should!

It does look like a cozy little French cafe or bistro. I really miss living in Paris, although I don't miss the prices!

Jackson doesn't really have anything like this. I will have to visit when I finally get over to Birmingham. :)

Your new banner is your best, you've really outdone yourself with that one. What I appreciate most about your work is that it is artful but still about your home town. I'm going to be traveling in the next few weeks for about two weeks and I'll be near Birmingham towards the end and I'll be visiting some of the places you've featured. I can't wait.

Oh, I like Euro Birmingham. I want to eat there and enjoy the company of good friends for a few hours.

Lovely photos! (And I'm sure the restaurant appreciates all the free publicity you generate for them!)

Now that's an idea. A grand meeting of Daily Photo bloggers will convene right here and we will work our way through that bowl de vin!

Oh this is just wonderful, Virginia. fabulous photographs and one of my all-time ever favourite songs. So evocative of Paris. Funnily enough I heard the music today. Came up immediately.

Adore you banner.

I had to redo my Deezer player today so my friend Mary could catch yesterday's song. Maybe I will keep doing that. Let's see, what else can add to this blog that will require me to spend even more time on it? What, am I nuts??? Glad you could listen in today Jilly.

The banner photo is one of my personal favorites. I took it for my first photography class. Shall we call it beginner's luck?

I'll take a bottle of Cava, please.

I assume you know to what "freedom" I allude on the countdown. :-D

This looks like a fabulous restaurant and I'm sure the management would send you over a complimentary bottle of bubbles for your great publicity and if they haven't then they should..

Virginia I've now stopped believing you're actually blogging from Birmingham. These photos prove that you HAVE to be France!! Your French radar is obviously working at its highest level because these photos are stunning and have such a French flair. I agree with everyone about your new banner photo too -- it's wonderful!

Well, "Louis" wandered in from the pasture and plopped his bovine butt down on one of those right-from-Paris cushioned seats. He apologizes that he neglected to wipe his hooves. He was in too big a hurry to get here - it's oh-so-much like Paris....

how cute is this place? I wonder what the rail is for though, above the seat?
I just love how precious this place looks. I bet the food and coffee are divine

Ming the Merciless said...

Oh la la! It DOES look very Parisian.

I bet the food there is delicious.

Virginia said...

Ming,
I knew you would be all over the food here. Yes, you would love it! Come on down and take some photos for your blog!! :) Yee Haw, B'ham comes to the Big Apple.
