Let Us All Eat Cake!

My daughter Kathleen and I almost share a birthday.  Hers was yesterday and mine is tomorrow, so I thought we might celebrate in the middle today!  I stopped by Angels Cakes and Confections in Crestline Village and photographed these gorgeous cakes. Well,  I know they are wedding cakes, but let's pretend.  Not only did they rearrange the shop for my photo "shoot", but I got a delicious cup of coffee as well. I am including  a portion of the gelato selection so you can have some with your cake.   Happy Birthday Kat!  Oh,  and the number of candles on our cakes?  Well, my lips are sealed, what about yours,  Kat?

And my present you ask?? Well I am giving myself a grand one this year. I won't be able to open it till around 9:30 a.m. on November 17th in Paris!

The specialty of the house is a delicious caramel cake.  It's a southern favorite.  I might need one of those when I return from Paris to lift my spirits!

PARIS COUNTDOWN ...19 DAYS!!!

The Tune du Jour is one of my very favorites, " The One I Waited For" by my dear friend Michael Dulin.  Who else would I ask to play at our party???

A special THANK YOU to Petrea and Dusty Lens for your most appreciated BFF Awards.  I so enjoy your friendship and your wonderful photographs and posts each and every day.

A very happy birthday, V! Looks like your b-day treat will be Paris. Wish you and Kat a wonderful day(s).
(on your hillside homes comment - PV on the north side has been pretty solid, so far - except in a few landslide areas! But...no worries.)

All cool people are born either in October like you and my daughter, or else in February like my son and I! Ha,ha! These look absolutely scrumptious, and perhaps it is a sign to me that they are wedding cakes, since I have two unmarried children....hmmm.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUU!

I have a friend who always googles 'pretty cakes' when she has the blues! She says that the images always make her chirpy! It's edible art at its finest:)

Yum! Happy birthday to both of you. The title of your blog caught my eye. At the time, I lived in Dallas, but worked for Vesta Insurance and spent quite a lot of time in Birmingham. I was pleasantly surprised to see what a beautiful city it is. Love the leaves. BJ

Happy birthday fellow October birthdayans!!!! It's a wonderful month to be born, don't you agree?

Those cakes are beautiful and the gelato is making my mouth water. Will you change your blog over to Paris while you're there? Or will you be doing an automatic post.

Virginia said...

Halcyon,
I will use automatic posting and I might had a smaller photo each day at the bottom of Paris from my last trip to set the mood! My friend is thinking about taking her laptop so I will try and leave comments on my blog from time to time to let you all know what we are up to. A week's worth is a daunting challenge. I don't know how I will manage. The text will be short and sweet I can assure you!HA

Thanks for you wonderful birthday wishes. Eat up!

Happy birthday Virginia! That's the cake I wanted for my wedding...but noone seemed to know how to make one like that here in southern Italy!

Virginia said...

Saretta, These two beauties are typical of southern wedding cakes. Sorry you couldn't get your hands on one from Angels. They do spectacular confections of all kinds.

Happy Birthday, Virginia! I had to enlarge the cakes to make sure they were real. So very elegant. And the gelato, hoeny pear and limone? Too much.
It is indeed so very close to your departure date we'll all be thinking about you and the lovely time you'll be having.

Aha! The time difference allows me to be the first to officially say a big happy birthday, on your birthday. Age is a number which we can ignore, maths never being my strong point, I am whatever I choose or feel to be. Cake with coffee ice cream please, and I'm feeling like a Baileys to wash it down with tonight. Radical but you'll find it's a perfect combo. Congrats once again, enjoy.

The cakes are perfect pictures, aren't they? How delightful for a wedding party. The shop certainly was accommodating to you, and you deserve a cup of coffee to celebrate your birthday.

A happy birthday all around, to you and Kathleen! Oh my, gelato! Tose cakes are almost too pretty to cut into and eat... almost. Where's my fork?

In 2006, Mrs. DL and I traveled across Italy for 12 days with a gelato per day. OK, it was 2 gelati per day. Well, there were a couple of days I had tre gelati. But who's counting? Gelato is a milk group, it has to be good for you, right?

Virginia said...

Oh DL,certainly all the gelato you can consume is perfectly OK! Thank you all for your nice birthday wishes. For those of you in town.. GO TO ANGELS!
In Paris, who knows what kind of mischief I can find. I do know that French chocolate ice cream is the very best that has ever passed my lips.

the positioning of the two cakes almost looks like man and wife in an old photo!

Louis la Vache said...

...oh, and would yew be so kahnd as to e-mail "Louis" a bodacious slice o' dat cake an one-a dem tubs o' gel-ah-to?

Virginia said...

Oh Louis, What the ..... a cow asking moi for gelato??? Surely you jest. You know just where that comes from mon ami! :)

KM, You have such an eye. Never thought of that but you are right as usual.

Thank you all. Tomorrow is the "real deal" but today has been a delightful early celebration with all of you.
