Bogue's restaurant has been a Birmingham institution since 1938! Unbelievably, I remember sitting at the counter as a little girl drinking the coffee cream from little glass bottles! Located on Clairmont Avenue in Birmingham's Lakeview neighborhood they are still open for breakfast and lunch. Vintage radios adorn the shelves adding to the atmosphere along with old black and white photos on the walls. It is like stepping back in time.

OMG I'd completely forgotten those little glass containers for coffee cream.

I'll bet my uncles and aunts had been in there. They would have been kids and teenagers when it opened.

I won a radio like that - except it was creme - in 1962 when I entered a competition where I had to nominate a popular music touring group with a USA headliner and a couple of Australia acts as openers. It gained me notoreity ...

What I was referring to is cream for coffee. It was served in tiny little glass bottles with a cardboard lid. My dad would let me sip the cream from the bottles. When you are two it's big fun! Ha

I remember those mini glass bottles now but I have not thought of them even once since they disappeared. At some point the cream started to come in an odd 3-D triangular paper thing with a removable tab to pour out the cream.
The style and colour of this radio is classic. I had a transistor radio I could carry in my shirt pocket when I was 11 or 12. I wish I'd hung on to it.

The coffee cream in bottles is a new one on on me. A fortune would be paid in the uk for the clock and the radio, and yes that would be me. I think it's the first lime green one I have seen. Kitsch the word, not grease.
I would love to visit that place.

My grandmother had a dark green one like this on our kitchen table, and my first transistor was just this color! Oh, flashback!
