Today, I have two. This lovely lady in the top photo had stopped to admire a stroller full of triplets at the Magic City Art Connection. She asked me why I wanted her picture, and I told her I loved the light and shadows from her hat. She was okay with that! ( I wish I had gone on to tell her how much I loved her sweet face.)
The gentleman below made an appearance the first week or so of my blog last year. Since I was hardly a blip on the radar at that point, I thought I'd bring him back for the rest of you to meet. He sells some mighty fine produce at the Pepper Place Market each Saturday. I took him a print of this photograph the next time I went. He declared himself a "star"! And he is indeed. I hope he'll be there with his tomatoes May 16th when they reopen.
CDPB around the world have some very creative takes on "shadows". You'll want to click the link below to see them all!

These two great portraits reinforce my resolve regarding my gardening/teapot lid hat. And as a testament, I wore my straw hat on the beach today. A lot of love here, V.
Both delightful portraits! The tracery of the shadowing comes up so very well in both of them. I have not noticed it here IRL so will keep my eyes peeled.
Good examples ...
Two marvellous photographs, Virginia. The criss-cross shadows on the face echoing the holes in the straw hats - just perfect. Love your choices, beautiful photographs/portraits. Superb! I'm running out of superlatives.
Beautiful images. Particularly the first portrait is stunning! Great choice for today's theme. Thanks for stopping by and kind comment! Cheers!
Virginia, both of these photos are wonderful. You captured the shadows and a great deal more.
Beautiful portrait
the mamy is beautiful
Those straw hats are wonderful! So stylish! And I love black and white pictures...especially this one.
Gorgeous! I'm going to plop a straw hat on my head, work in my garden, and sprinkle some shadows on my face too! Joyeux Premier Mai! Bisous xoxo
Ah Virginia, if you've got more like these up your sleeve, then I can't wait. Superbes portraits, dignes d'un livre.
I like both of these photographs but the black and white one seems to inspire me a bit. I don't know where I would find anything to equal it though. Nice photo.
Neat-o! I had a navy blue bathing suit as a kid that had white polka dots. After a long day in the sun, I found I had little brown polka dots on me where the sun had shone through. I like these portraits, especially the bw one, and am happy that it's probably not likely the hats leave the wearers semi-permanently meshed.
Oh my, this lady's portrait is just beautiful, Virginia. You have to print this one and frame it! And the man is perfect too, but the first is my favourite.
Just great and beautiful!
Very nice! i do remember this gentleman from your previous post. You do take wonderful portraits!
I love the photo of the lady. It makes her look like she's a sweet person and would have alot of stories to tell. I would love to sit with her and just listen about her history. There's something interesting about her especially the way you captured it.
Ahhhhh DL, you've been with me from the beginning. Thanks for hanging in there for almost a year now!
Iv2scpbk and Uma pour DIa,
I think this might be your fist visits here. Welcome and thank you for your nice comments!
Ah, bring on the straw hats! It's that time of year. Love these photos.
The meshed shadows not only on the face but further down from make the picture! Wonderful, Virginia!
Excellent choice! I knew I could count on you for something creative and different.
Outstanding - as good as could be!
My congrats, Virginia.
These are luscious! Wow. I love your portraits, and these shadows add so much.
Virginia, these are great photos.
Happy May Day! what great portraits.
Love this post, Virginia! Two exceptional portraits for the theme and each with a story to tell. Especially like that lovely lady in the B&W image.
Finally she gets here, me that is Exceptional as Raf says. Well without big hoo ha's but can we safely say this bears out my emphasis on people images. Right back to the little baby feet(one year on little feet coming up maybe?)to the other end of the scale, people, people, people. Now off to bed. Checking in when can. Suddenly like I'm the only working photographer here 24/7
Thank you everyone. I am so very pleased that you enjoyed meeting these two beautiful people. I 've said it many times, but I'll say it again, the best part of doing this blog is having the privilege of meeting and photographing the incredible people I meet right here in my hometown! Getting to know all of you is the cherry on the sundae!
V
two excellent photos. I really like the first one. Can't wait to see more over the week :)
These are both excellent! You do have a gift for seeing those shadows. I can't wait to see more!
Your portraits are just beautiful , the first one is my favourite , you were very lucky that she accepts to be taken in photo ;)
What a clever idea! I especially like the 2nd photo, it's fantastic!
And yes, definitely Capt. Hook on my post! Lol!
What a complimentary set of portraits! You've done a such a great job at capturing the looks of these beautiful people. I love the shadows from their hats.
What a nice idea, Virginia!
Joyeux premier mai!
Shadows with so much feeling! I just love both faces. The woman's is so tranquil - indeed a sweet face. The man's is so intent yet gentle.
Very soft portraits playing with the light. I like them both, maybe the B&W most ? No, the second one is nice too : this man seems being wearing a lady's lace veil.
