Gateway

What would Birmingham do without wonderful places like Gateway Family and Child Services? Since 1891, Gateway has been helping Birmingham families in so many ways. Their mission statement says: " Gateway is preserving, strengthening, and enriching family life through quality services provided to families and individuals in need." As a teacher, I witnessed firsthand their tireless commitment to children and families. Now I feel privileged to be able to give back just a little. Again this year, I am donating some of my photographs for their fundraiser, Off The Wall on April 1, 2010. Please visit their website if you feel you can donate and for my Birmingham readers, I hope to see you at Off the Wall!

The top photo is one of the photographs I am planning to donate. I have had a little fun with it. ( Care to guess exactly what I did? )The bottom photo shows the actual building.

This week I've decided to join the Monochrome Weekend gang right here.

Two very different and very striking shots of the same object. Excellent, V!

Such a good opportunity for your pictures.
No, I don't think to know how you did it with the first picture...

Bratt,

Excellent Composition!!!!

A bit of rotation as well as a crop, first, but also gray-scale conversion for starters ... more you'll have to divulge -:)

A very nice graphic you've ended up with!

Nicely done!

No doubt the agency appreciates your generosity.

«Louis» really enjoys geometrical compositions like the one in the first image.

Reach around, pat yourself on the back and give yourself a hearty "ATTAGIRL!"

that top detail photograph is just gorgeous... :)

Well Chuck nailed it . Actually this top photo was taken from another angle, then I cropped and rotated it to death! I liked the end result. I hope the patrons at Off The Wall like it too.

I was just fixing to say "cropped and rotated!" Neat and sounds like a great cause.

This is so weird. I had my camera here at work the other day, and took a very similar shot of what I call the 'ice cube tray' neon lights in my room!!

Great minds, har...

It makes a great design. I don't use photoshop so I can't guess how you did it, but it looks very good like that.

And here I thought I owned the gateway (as in Gateway Arch) theme. Lots of rhythm here. I was going to guess they were cubbyholes for kids to put their stuff in.

Looks like you turned the tones inside out. The top photo looks like the underside of a grate. I like the powerful geometry of your image. Very nicely done.
