Good News!

The Alabama Environmental Council has joined forces with the Jefferson County Health Department and will  now be offering glass pickups for 35 Birmingham area bars and restaurants. Previously, all these glass bottles went to a landfill,  or hopefully to the downtown recycling center that AEC has operated for years in lieu of no Birmingham glass pickup.  I think this is a positive sign for our city. Hoping that in months to come, we can all have glass recycling pickup as well!

That IS good news! I have been really frustrated with the lack of glass recycling around here. Way back 20 years ago I would take mine to a place off of First Avenue, but it was a real pain to do and was really out of my way to go. Now my attitude is if they really want us to save the planet, then they better make it easy. - They also need to add deposits to plastic bottles and make it pay to turn those in, then we would have a lot less litter than we do now.

Long live recycling. I sort of have a recycling post today. A tongue-in-cheek one.

Love the light on these bottles.

If I ever get to B-ham, I'll do my part to get empty beer bottles for you. hahahaha

Good news, and an excellent and creative image to celebrate the fact!

Like the lazy look to the bottles "relaxing" in the late afternoon sun.

Brilliant shot, V! Environmental concerns are never too much. Yesterday I watched The Breaking Ice, one of the amazing BBC's Frozen Planet episodes and the reality is SO scary! Young generations have no idea of the awful changes they will face in a near future.
