Just outside Centreville in Abercrombie, nestled in a pine grove we found a treasure. Mt. Gilead Baptist Church founded in 1832 and this structure built in 1890, is so close to being lost to us all. I felt like I was on hallowed ground. This tiny clapboard church with it's lovely bell tower is open to the elements. As we stepped onto the front porch, the two sets of open doors welcomed us inside. Today our entry. Tomorrow more. I don't often do a series but this one begs for that. I hope you will return and step inside with us.

that sure is pretty! well, your photos make it so, anyway! :)
This looks like a precious place amid pines. Looks like here.
une chapelle en bois : elle est très jolie
Are preservationists aware of this jewel? Looking forward to following you inside.
I cannot wait to see what is inside!
It is refreshing to see a simple and humble church. That it is nestled against so much greenery makes it doubly so.
The outside is pretty but the inside is depressing. Surely there must be someone to salvage the old pew at least, no?
Lovely old church!!!
