A Bucketful of Sunshine

Today, I join the Project 64- Out of the Box again. This week our crayon is YELLOW ORANGE.
I had some fine squash blossoms picked out,  but some clever photographer beat me to it. So..... another happy choice. Thank you Jones Valley Urban Farm for selecting these grand buckets for you posies this year!

Jones Valley Urban Farm- A little green amongst the asphalt

A garden plot tended by a group from the YWCA

Welcome back to the Jones Valley Urban Farm.  A non-profit agency that utilizes 3 acres of vancant downtown property.  They raise vegetables and flowers and do a terrific job of educating the community about healthy food.  I've posted about this great place here.  I also stop by their booth at the Pepper Place on Saturdays to buy their organically grown produce.

The JVUF's booth at the Pepper Place Market always has a terrific variety of cut flowers as well as organically grown veggies.

Welcome Back to the Pepper Place Market

Those of you that have followed my blog since last summer are very familiar with our Pepper Place Market.  It's open from May through October on Saturdays.  Located around the old Dr. Pepper Bottling Company, it's the place to be on a Saturday morning.  There are wonderful fruits and vegetables from local growers, flowers,  homemade sweets, jams, salsa, crafts,  live music and demonstrations by local chefs.  I don't mind telling you that this is one thing I'll miss while I'm in France.

Today a couple of photos to give you a taste of Pepper Place. Stay tuned, I have more this week, plus an artist or two!

Green Acres Meets City Livin'

Recently I visited a place that I have passed many times, but never stopped to explore- the Jones Valley Urban Farm.  One of its three locations is smack dab in the middle of downtown Birmingham.  I saw everything from corn , (at least 7 feet tall), melons, zinnias, and even a colorful rooster!   More photos will be posted in the weeks to come.  I chose this photo to give you a feel for the location.  As you can see , it is in close proximity to Park Place, a mixed income development, and the interstate! Please visit their website to see all the wonderful things this urban farm offers to the children and adults of Birmingham.
