Sunday Church Series - Reflection

Walking through the Great Hall at Independent Presbyterian Church last week, This reflection on the highly polished floor stopped me in my tracks.

Today I think I'll join James' Weekend Reflections group!

Sunday Church Series - The Cross

When visiting Cullman, Alabama a few weeks ago we made a stop at St. Bernard College and walked down to the lovely cemetery and chapel there.  The simple, but beautiful  chapel, which was not open on my last visit, was a special find. Its sparse furnishings allow the stained glass windows to show through. This afternoon, the light cast some interesting shadows.

Chapel Window

It's not often that you find stained glass windows in an abstract pattern. This is one of several in the chapel at Kirkwood By The River retirement community.

Sunday Church Series - Chapel, Kirkwood By The River

Some of the most beautiful windows I've seen around Birmingham. I will add the name of the artist when I find it.  For now, enjoy.

Last View

Last Sunday, the members of my church, Independent Presbyterian,  had this last view from our Great Hall during church services.  Today, we will gather again in our newly renovated Sanctuary.  Since January, much needed repairs and lighting issues have now completed ( ahead of schedule!!!).  We look forward to the installation of our new organ in the months to come.  While we have all enjoyed the more intimate setting of the Great Hall, I think the cushioned pews in the Sanctuary will be most welcome, not to mention the more robust AC!

Sunday Church Series - First Pres

Birmingham's First Presbyterian Church gets a lot of face time on this blog. It's a beautiful place of worship, and from time to time I sit in the carpool line right beside it!  Pays to have your camera handy.

CDP Theme Day - Reflections

Today City Daily Photo Bloggers around the world are posting their take on the July's Theme - Reflections. I've been participating in CDP Theme Days for two years now. I love it, although I rarely plan ahead and actually have something in mind when it rolls around the first day of every month. Fortunately, I'm embarking on an exciting and challenging photography project for my church, Independent Presbyterian Church, and I found a photograph of this colorful reflection as the late afternoon sun shown through one of the many exquisite stained glass windows. I'm happy to share it with all of you today.

Hosanna!

For Christians around the world, today is Palm Sunday.  I love chronicling events at my church, Independent Presbyterian Church, and this season is no exception.  These palm crosses were made by ladies in our church and will be worn today by everyone attending services.  The top photo was taken in a small room off the sanctuary where the afternoon sun was streaming through a stained glass window.  The colors and effect were a pleasant surprise.

Bottle Tree

I visited Park Lane Flowers in English Village yesterday and hit pay dirt!  Not only did I get to photograph this lovely window display, but I met a new friend who had been to Paris in December.  She was here from New Mexico visiting family,  and we had such a nice visit over coffee and croissants next door at Continental Bakery .  I love this window because it reminds me of an abstract stained glass window!

Morning Light

Independent Presbyterian Church, on Birmingham's southside, is my church.   I am so very grateful for the support of members regarding my photography and my Birmingham Daily Photo adventure!  Not a Sunday goes by that friends  haven't offered encouraging words and positive feedback.  I had a difficult time choosing a photograph for this first post,  but I chose this one because I loved the morning sun coming through the window of the Great Hall and the beautiful pattern it cast on the floor.

A new photo today as the BADP heading.  I thought it might be nice to see a different photograph  of my city occasionally.  Enjoy!

The Tune du Jour is Pachelbel's "Canon in D".  As always, if the Tune du Jour is not your thing just click the player on the sidebar.
