English, oui???

Several months ago I posted a photograph of the interior of Continental Bakery here.  I mentioned that this bakery, reminiscent of a French boulangerie, was located in an area called English Village in the suburb of Mountain Brook.  Some of you chuckled at a place called English Village that had such a charming  French style bakery.  Today I show you the outside. English? Mais oui!

The Tune du Jour is a special one.  Last week I featured my  friend and talented musician (here),  Michael Dulin.  I am happy to report that you can now sample his music and make a playlist on Deezer.com  .  I can also treat you to his music right here on my blog.  The Tune du Jour is "The One I Waited For".   I especially chose this song because not only is it a personal favorite, but the one he waited for is a very dear friend as well. Enjoy .

I've always said, you can never go wrong with a picture of a bakery.

I can't think of any wisecracks, I'm feeling very mellow after listening to Michael's playing.

Très anglais (indeed). The colors of the roof and the surrounding are lovely.

It's a wonderful piece of architecture, V. I like the cylindrical shape of the tower (?), the windows and the color; and that flower vine really adds a nice touch.

Inside, outside, a great place to spend a good moment listening piano!
I like the bignonne (sorry, Idon't know the English name) which grows up on the side of the tower.

No matter if it's French or English-looking, I'm sure its wares are delicious.

I absolutely LOVED your line photo yesterday!

And yet another charming cafe! Will you please stop posting even more reasons for me to hightail it to Birmingham and eat myself into a stupor? :-)

Another gorgeous spot, Miss V. I really love that rooftop!

It's like something out of a fairy tale, so charming! What's that flowery vine climbing up the tower?

A lovely building, Virginia!!
These roofs you find, infact, throughout Brittany in France.
I can recommend Brittany as a region to travel through. During one of my summer holidays we travelled first to Corwall for 10 days and afterwards through Brittany. Both areas have historically speaking a lot in common.

I have also listened with great pleasure to Michael's Tune du Jour!

Good morning Virginia!
Oui, very English. Very lovely and thank you for sharing.

Tomorrow is Beale St day and I will tell you in advance that I really meant to bring you a take-out box (burp) but I was weak. I am very, very sorry. ;~)

I'm off to Cullman tomorrow and the details aren't all worked out but you might hear from me, you just might.

What a sweet building. A french flavour in the curiously titled English Village. Our bakery shop has closed. Yet another. Not at all as picturseque as this little baby. Don't you just want to dive inside and eat yourself silly.

Like something out of Dickens. I am reminded of Normandy area. Lovely photo, I sure hope there is a basket of baguettes inside!

For you plant enthusiasts, I am guessing it's a trumpet vine. Will swing by there today and inspect it for you.

B
I just got up and one of their yummy chocolate croissants would be divine with a cup of coffee!

PJ,
I have my fingers crossed. I will email you with my cell number and promise to charge it and actually have it with me just in case.

I too am enjoying Mike's tune du jour. I'm going to insist that the next song he writes be pour moi. Maybe "Ode to Virg" or something catchy like that. HA

A lovely bakery....my daughter would ask where is the princess that lives here?! How I would love to be there right now....sitting on that outdoor patio and eating some pastry. Lucky you to have such a place to visit!

Hope,
Maybe a huge CDP crowd could convene in B'ham and we could eat our way across B'ham, starting with chocolate croissants and scones at this place!

Hey to Doug and Sue in Iowa, glad you are enjoying Mike's music!!! Since they are aunt and uncle to my children, they wait breathlessly every day for photos of the kiddos. I try not to let them down!HA

Yum! "Louis" would like to visit this place and give them (ahem) a little quality taste test....

Mumsie,
I didn't know you worked for a genius! Can you get me a CD (I'll pay for it of course!)? I doubt if I have ever told you, but I cry when I hear piano music!...and I am about to shed a tear.

These people don't know what they are missing, that bakery is delicious, as is all of the other restaurants/cafes you have featured!

Jen,
Thanks for asking! Michael Dulin is available on Amazon, CD Baby and I Tunes. Because I love ya, I might get you an autographed copy!

DL - Oui, baguettes and wonderful breads are their specialty. Come on down.

How pretty but very un-English. That roof is something you'd see in Europe - Brittany perhaps? Not sure.

Not sure why but the music is playing Blue Moon for me, not the musician you mention. Maybe it's too early in the morning here - I'll try again later...

This looks such a lovely place to sit and eat a pain chocolat.
