Yesterday, I spent a wonderful day at Sweet Peas Garden Shop showing some of my photographs at their open house/art show. The best part??? Spending the day with some very dear friends and enjoying a crisp, breezy autumn day seeing old friends and making new ones. Of course I couldn't pass up some incredible photo opportunities. Today I include two. Which is your favorite? The top photo is taken of a bird bath . The colors and reflection caught my interest. The bottom photo was shot straight up through my very favorite southern tree, the dogwood. I am thankful for this lovely day well spent!
The Tune du Jour is "Autumn Leaves" by Willie Nelson . I love his version!

Hello Virginia !
Yes the autumn is here too !
Nice photos with orange colours, but the leaves are dead...
The song is pretty...
Oh Virginia - I can tell you that I can't pick a favorite - that's for sure. Love this whole post. Love fall and you've interpreted it beautifully here.
I really liked the first one, until I saw the second one. I'm gong to choose #2.
A more diplomatic person would have said.......
Well, it's still early, let's just wait. There'll be nice, polite, diplomatic people along and we'll see what they say.
What lovely colors! I've tried to catch autumn around here, and I'm just not getting the hang of it yet.
Both are wonderful but I have a fondness for the second one that shows Fall as it should alway be, sunny, or at least bright, with vivid colors !
Not like in my area today ! Mist, fog and wet dead leaves, all I dislike !!!!
These are both very beautiful photos, I simply can't decide between the two! When the sun shines in autumn(Fall!)there really is nothing like it, the last few leaves clinging to the trees, which is why I really love the second image. However the dead leaf floating in the water is very poignant and beautifully done. So top marks all round. Great song too, Miles Davis does a great version of this.
The first for its deep, muted shades. And the second for its light and transparency. I just can't choose!
I love them both, but the dogwood gets my vote.
The bottom one would be my favorite because the veins in the leaves are a design I really like as well as the colors.
My Halloween memories
Both exquiste in colour. It was the first 'til I saw the second. The textures, the colours, the backlight that soft blue. It's such a contrast that it actually makes the image very 3d. Sit on the fence, you get splinters.
ah...amazing that you're off to Paris soon. That is a lovely city indeed.
I love leaves. Driving thru the country during this time of year.
Hi Virginia. I usually access your blog through the portal but it's down this morning so I've come here direct and discovered that we've posted the same photo today! OK, not quite but you'll see what I mean when you stop by GDP. Love your image and Willie's take on Autumn Leaves. Cheers!
Tough call - but "Louis" votes for the first one.
I'm with Louis. I like the first one best. Today I went out "shooting" leaves, too.
(Hey! Did you know I had to type "cooki" as my word verification? That's almost cookie...am going to kitchen...)
Godd afternoon, Virginia. As soon as I saw your post I heard Willie Nelson singing this song. GMTA!!!!
They're just exquisite, the essence of Autumn. Thank you so much.
You may or may not be interested but you can now get the embedded comment form through your regular dashboard. I just discovered that and changed my other blog. Voila!
I know you must be having beautiful weather for your show today as well. I hope you're having a wonderful time there.
I can't choose. I love both. Oh alright, if pushed I'll choose the second photo as my favourite. What is intriguing me tho is the leaf in the first one. It looks like an oak but I've never seen an oak leaf go red, so I guess it's something else?
Wonderful opportunity indeed! I would go for the second one which has a mysterious side.
How wonderful that you are able to share your photos with others in person. So well deserved & sounds like your really enjoyed your day. I love both photos for different reasons: I like the way the 1st dips in the water and the transluscent free of the 2nd. And the colors are wonderful.
I can't choose! Am I allowed to like both?! Glad you enjoyed your day.
Three weeks to go!
Beautiful photos, Virginia! Autumn really gives photographers some great ops, huh?
The autumn colours are so beautiful that it is sad to see them go.
Really well composed.
I could spend hours looking at the fall colors...
Nice tune again today... I did not know this version.
The top photo is definitely my fave!
Hi Virginia, I believe both pictures very nice for their beautiful colours.
I just read now your comment of a few days ago about some Leonardo's drawings in your Birmingham Museum. I am a Leonardo's fan and I am in possession of many books about this great persnonality but INCREDIBLY never I visited the Biblioteca Reale in Torino
Livio, I wlll stop by and fill you in. I am doing a post on Leonardo soon. This is the first time these drawings have ever traveled. I understand the National Gallery of Art had a representative here last week and they were very impressed with the way they were exhibited and at the nippy 62 degrees that the exhibition room is chilled to. I keep saying I want to take a shift in there but will need a jacket for sure.
The drawings are incredible. You are allowed to get very close with a magnifying glass . A very personal experience between "the Master" himself and the viewer.
I like the 1st photo the best. Just speaks to me.
