Backstage

Waiting in the wings

One of the perks of hosting Birmingham Alabama Daily Photo is that it gets you into the most interesting places!  I have volunteered some of my time to the wonderful Birmingham Children's Theatre.  You read about it earlier here.  What an asset to our city and  state, but sadly this theatre company is feeling the economic pinch along with many non profit groups. Please see the website if you feel that you can offer some financial assistance to this most deserving organization.   They have asked me to take some photos for them and I couldn't be happier.  I dabbled in the theatre just a tiny bit in high school as a props and stage manager.  Getting free reign to wander around backstage and see what's going on in the scene shop has been great fun.  Today's offering is from their wonderful production of "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever". It was my all time favorite book to read to my class when I taught third grade.  Now I get to see it on stage and it is outstanding!

Nice tour backstage! "The Best Little Christmas Pageant Ever" is an annual production in Selma.

How fascinating to see "the illusion" from this angle. I remember being an angel in a Christmas pageant. It was so exciting!

I was once an angel in the school choir. I have fallen obviously into the darkside.Beautifully done espcially the top shot the warmth of the tones on the empty cold stage is not easy to allude too.

(Doing RDP eand I have access to precisely no interesting places- not quite banned just not welcome. Card on it's way.)

Your photos bring back memories of all the times I had to go on stage as a child.

Sometimes I was excited and sometimes I was terrified.

Thanks for helping me remember.

Hosting Vancouver Daily Photo hasn't gained me access to anywhere but I've been banned from several venues.

Grinch,
And rightfully so!

AH,
Pardon, pardon, pardon!!! I have said several Hail St. Latrine's to beg forgiveness. Turn the coffee pot off and put a bottle of vin in the frig.

V, I might be persuaded, but it will take more than some wine. Whatcha have on and in the stove for Christmas? Dazzle me with some Southern cooking. I can almost make a roux, but it takes so damned long; I spoil everything by walking away in the last five minutes.

So, I assume we're going to see the show tomorrow! Is there a contingency on who gets to wear the angel wings, like who's been naughty or nice?

Ribs! My favorite food group. I've been scoping them out for Christmas. Keep the home fires burning, I'll make it down there one of these days. In the meantime, I'll just visit through the ethernet, and I want rib pictures! (Totally agree on the Scrooge.)

A.H., Roux? are you kiddin? My attention span isn't that long. RIbs i can do cause they don't need constant attention on the smoker although over the 4th I went on a quick photo shoot and let the fire go out.

Bob, No play tomorrow but an angel of sorts that is NOT a grandchild, so there!

I love that book. I used to read it to my classes every year. I never could make it through the end without tearing up a little, though. Many times, the Herdmans were in my class!

D,
I had a "Herdman" in my class my first year. How I lived through it I'll never know. It's a miracle I was able to teach there another 18 years after that. Whooo eeee. We called kids like the Herdmans "ring tailed tooters"!!! Oh my!
