The beautiful suburb of Vestavia Hills lies south of Birmingham atop Shades Mountain. If you're looking for some nice fog shots, this is the first place to check. A few Saturdays ago, I headed up the "mountain" in search of some nice photographs. I found them at Vestavia's Sybyl Temple. No view of the neighboring suburb of Homewood down in the valley this day. Vestavia was socked in, but the fog enveloping the Temple was just what I had hoped for.
* Today my friend Peter is posting the "Sculptures of Tuileries " on his blog. He has kindly included one of my Eva from our Paris trip in 2007 .
Please go have a look!

la tonalité de la première photo est magnifique.
the tone of the first picture is beautiful.
Love the classical architecture in the first and the contrast between those solid white columns and the fog...
Soory I can't send you a truffle, V. but they're long gone!
PS I also wanted to say how much I enjoyed Van Morrison..
They are such lovely, tranquil photos!
How strange I went for fog too. The hint of sepia wash really suits these images adds such an ethereal feel. I think you may have you own magical fairies weaving magic there too.
I love the first photo. Fog and mist they make such beautiful photos.
That first photo looks sooo Southern to me...beautiful.
I love the combination of the building, trees and fog in the first photo. It looks sort of spooky.
Love the fog shots here. Sort of mysterious, a moody image.
foggy prophesies are a sybil's friend. I like that you shot just a mysterious bit of the building instead of full-on. Hellooo - who's there in the temple?
The second picture reminds me to a daguerreotype!
Your photos make me misty eyed (sorry about the pun!) Seriously - very good foggy photos.
I have to learn some photo terms so I can say something besides "lovely." Oh, here's one: Great FStop (does that work?).
This is glorious, V. I love how you managed to capture that quiet feeling in a fog.
You have the most beautiful fog shots on your blog! I wish you have many sunny winter days, but just in case the sun doesn't show, please keep on posting your greyish/pastel tones
views... :-)
AH
"Great Fstop" works for me since I am never on the right one!HA I love your blog. When I "get it" I LOL!!!
JM, I guess since this is my first year as a full time photographer I never noticed how many dismal days we have in the winter. Having to feed the monster on a daily basis makes one a little more aware!! Yikes, I am digging deep for photos. Sunny Portugal is sounding divine!
Thanks everyone for putting up with yet another rain/fog shot. I'm trying to wean myself off them-HA
I LIKE rain/fog shots. For example, check Bleeding Orange's shot from Grenoble today. Anyway, the building reminds me of Monticello. The second one is full of dark atmosphere. I can see Ichabod Crane galloping out of those woods, chased by the Headless Horseman. Except for the detail that's it's Alabama, not the Hudson Valley.
I love your fog pictures. They remind me of the one time I was there in winter time, back in the early sixties. Some of us little cousins played on the teeter-totters of the playground of an abandoned schoolhouse, somewhere near my grandmother's apartment (wherever that was). The old wood of the school was the same color as the fog around us. I had almost forgotten about that.
US,
When our photographs evoke sweet memories for others and ourselves really, it is exactly what we were set out to do. How nice. Thanks,
V
An "eerie" feeling...
I 've never tried fog pictures...yet
They look hard to me..
