Winter in Birmingham Part III- Brown With Envy?

Plumes backlit by the setting sun

Don't get me wrong, although we have mild winters around here, things are far from green everywhere.  I'll think you'll agree that sometimes brown is just as beautful!

We have had more than our share of rain for the last few weeks. I thought "Prince of Tides"
would be a fitting Tune du Jour!

My brown eyes are smiling :) at these pretty browns. The last image is just stunning...like little tears just welling up & eventually dropping.

The hydrangea detail is the most stunnning image I have seen for a long time ... it is not a flower ... it is a love sonnet to nature. Such an excellent eye ...

Brown IS beautiful. A coincidence is I took a very similar photo yesterday of a dead thistle against a brown background. I love your branches with rain, too.

Such beautiful browns! You have to enlarge the 1st one to see the plumes details! Lovely!

I like your photos in this post, Virginia. The plumes remind me of some of the grasses I have here. The snow and ice has damaged their glory but they are still nice as they wave in the winds.

I still have the old blogs but I also have new ones Abe Lincoln Blogs and also look at Abraham Lincoln's Blog

Beautiful stuff today, V! I like what you've been doing with the nature macros. Especially that hydrangea, wow!

Oh yes, your soft browns are beautiful. Three gorgeous shots, Virginia. I think I respond to the middle one most of all - its delicacy I think.

Brown is an Earth tone, and your pictures are an ode to the Winter scenery..
Beautiful lacy Hydrangea!

Do you know what kind of grass or whatever that is in the top photo? It seems to be very popular but I don't remember it being common until recent years. It's all over STL. Even saw it in Japan. I've tried to shoot it backlit and can never get it right. Nice job here.

Bob,
I looked at every "clump" and no sign ti tekk what the name is . When I find it or can find an employee of the gardens that's in the know, I'll let you know. It is spectacular and when I went again and the sun was setting, i swooned!!!!!

Sorry Bob, I must have been "speaking in tongues" there for a minute! HA

Maybe this why I see earthy colours in your Paris images because you are also drawn to browns long with red and green. I do like this as a collection. This would be grouped for display like this. Wise choices.

I love all of 'em, V. In each case, the light is just perfect.

I find it shocking you're not a household name in Antarctica. (Your website gallery has some absolutely wonderous photos.)

KB,
It's just a matter of time till I "catch on" in Antartica and other far flung hot spots.
