America the Beautiful - Cinco de Mayo

We interrupt the previously scheduled  Shadows Series
to bring you Cinco de Mayo!

Sometimes the subject makes the photographer look really, really good. This is one of those times.  Meet America.  Yes, that's really her name!  She attended her big brother's graduation from the STAIR reading program at my church.  She got all dressed up for the occasion, right down to her cute black boots.  I took one look at her and began planning the photos in my head. Stalking might be too strong a word, so let's just say I was "relentless".   She was preoccupied with that big chocolate chip cookie,  so she really didn't notice the gazillion pictures I was madly snapping.  Oh my, I think this might be one of my very favorite portraits.

The bottom photo is one I took last fall at the Dia de los Muertos festivities.  I think it's a nice addition to the Cinco de Mayo theme today!

Can I say 'perfect' - mindblowing, fabulous, adorable. What a shot! What a beautiful child and caught in such a gorgeous pensive pose, leaning as she is against the wall. And also so marvellous in B and W. Aren't those boots so cute with that dress?

Well I've run out of superlatives, Virginia. A truly beautiful shot and one for framing, I'd say.

Virginia you must have felt blessed!

She is the cutest thing ever, and your photo is a gem. Of course you have no merit because with a model like this one you just can't go wrong LOL (just joking of course - I can see the photographer's eye here!)

Sorry I was away over the long 1st of May weekend so I wasn't able to comment on Theme Day but I have to commend you for your straw hat photos, I love them. I'm delighted that you carried the shadow theme over several days, you obviously had enough material for that. Wasn't it a great theme?

What can I say to add more than Jilly? Agree with her 150%! :<)

And I love the contrast of the pants and skirt in the lower photo.

One of the best shots I've seen in a long time. The pretty dress, the incongruous but charming boots and her expression. Marvellous!

wonderful photo, Virginia.
Very cute that the little lady is wearing boots. She seems lost in her own little thoughts

"Relentless"? Is that the word you're using now? ;-)

Actually, this is a fabulous portrait! I'm five shades of green with envy at your ability to capture people--and especially children--so beautifully. Well done on this one, V.

Brava.

You know what I'm going to say about your people images but even I think you have surpassed yourself with this portrait. You couldn't direct a child to pose any better than this wonderful natural image. America is a beauty and so is your lens.

America is beautiful. Nice and sharp too ;)

Bravo!

This really cute little America is trying (very discretly under the eye of the photograph) to have part of her dress match the color of her boots... hope she did not succeed...

A precious little America...
Those tiny black boots are a surprising addition, contrasting with the perfect white dress!
Well done V.

The portrait is beautiful! I hope that you are able to present a copy to her Mom! It's a treasure.

PS: Another wonderful banner photo. I'm glad that photography is your passion because you are very good at it.

You know this is one of my favorite pictures of yours ever. Angels don't wear big black boots. They may occasionally nibble a cookie but not with that look of boredom. Really nice stuff.

I like anybody with a cookie fetish, and that tummy, well, we could be twins. Fabuloso!

Oh this was a pleasure. Thank you all for your comments. I think we can all agree that if you go enough places, take enough photographs, you'll find a few nuggets of gold in your pan!

This proves what I have always said, "Mexican children are the most beautiful in the world!" Your photo is stunning.
