Au Revoir, Bon Voyage

la tour Eiffel est sur la table!

Last night was bittersweet.  I said a fond farewell to a small group of friends.  I may be gone for two months to France but while  it is a  glorious opportunity, I will surely miss my daughter Kathleen,  her family and my sweet friends. Last night was so much fun. We enjoyed wine, cheese and French baguettes.  This trip holds the promise of exciting new places and experiences, a gazillion images to be captured, and many new friends made, but my family and old friends will certainly be in my heart.

You will be commenting in French "But of course!!!"

I am truly with you in spirit. I will live through your images for the next two months drinking in till I am sated with my favourite country bar none. I both envy and am excited for you. Enjoy every single moment, take care, hold onto your handbags this time and bag a frenchman. You deserve it. Au revoir.

AH,
Oh you'll get all the TOUT you can handle! You crack me up!!!

B,
You didn't tell me HOW to bag that Frenchman!

I am not sure "to bag a Frenchman" keeps the same meaning translated in French but it's a very interesting expression!
I'll be in Paris tomorrow, Saturday 23, for visiting an appartment for my daughter, but only for the day...I'll be thinking of you on your plane!
Enjoy your first days, dear Virginie (;-), I hope to have some news from you.

And she's off!!!
Wishing you safe and healthy journey. And yes, one's French CAN seem to get substantially worse when among native speakers because their expressions of incomprehension are so unnerving :-). Well, that's my experience from my 7th grade French level experience at least!
Several hundred people around the globe are so excited to follow you on this return journey and if all our wishes pan out, you are going to be one happy woman for a couple months. Hope you can be present to each moment and person you encounter, just taking it all in and savoring it like a fabulous multi-course meal where each course is so memorable it seems to stretch on forever with good company and new sensations to enjoy. Drink it all in and enjoy reflecting on each day through your images. Talk about double your pleasure! Photos do that, sealing our experience and bringing new meaning and fuller understanding and clearer observation. I think reflection is better than absinthe when it comes to stimulating more creativity and the ability to really SEE things.

I invite you to ride a bike as often as possible while you are there. It brings more pleasure getting out and about that way than I can explain. And if you do, watch those scarves. . .no Isadore Duncan style unfortunate incidents for you! And, we want photos of every single one of those scarves in action, so plan on a wardrobe series :-). Oh, and about the Frenchman. . . what happens in France, STAYS in France. . .we don't want any photos of him. :-)
love and best wishes,
-Kim

Bon Voyage to you! I will be looking forward to your posts and as someone else has said, we want to hear about all of your adventures: people, food, beautiful sights....and a series with your scarves would be a great added bonus.

Have a WONDERFUL trip!

How can I express how much I appreciate all of your good wishes. THis is the opportunity of a lifetime for me, but I don't mind telling you, I am having butterflies. It's a long time to be away from home, and yet it's what I have dreamed of since my first trip to Paris in 2007..... to stay long enough to "feel like a Parisian"! I hope to just live it, see it, learn it, speak it, photograph it, and enjoy every minute of my summer in France. If I were a writer, there might be a book in the making. Maybe a photography book ??? I look forward to taking you all along with me! Off we go!
