Miss Myra's

Many of you saw the New York Times article 36 Hours in Birmingham.  Well it seems even those folks in the Big Apple, know good bar-b-que when they taste it.  Miss Myra's in Cahaba Heights was the place they picked.  I stopped in for a sandwich the other day and just happened to have my camera.  Aside from the great smoked chicken sandwich, the friendly folks behind the counter couldn't have been nicer.  Today I feature them along with what I call the "Trinity of BBQ". For those of you not in the know, that would be a roll of paper towels ( a necessity if you're eating ribs), red sauce ( vinegary, NOT sweet) and white sauce ( A mixture of mayonnaise, vinegar, black pepper. Fabulous on their chicken).  My Alabama viewers can tell you right off that the rack of chips in the background is Golden Flake, of course!  The last photo is a smattering of their rather extensive collection of pigs.  I'm not discussing the wall to wall photos of Bear Bryant and the Crimson  Tide.

I read that article too and it was very well written. I'm craving BBQ now. Unfortunately, we can't get good BBQ here in NYC except at high end concept restaurants and even then, they don't taste as good as the cheap stuff I got in college in Louisiana.

Sounds delicious Virginia!

After moving to Texas I fell in love with BBQ. Monday I get on the Highway and go trough Arkansas,Tennessee,Virginia,W.virgina and finally my new home Pennsylvania. I hope to find some good BBQ on the way. I looked into making a quick stop to see the Magic city but it's just too far out of the way. :-( Thank goodness for your pictures and commentary. Roll Tide! :-)

Hey, Virginia! I've just discovered a blog (though not primarily a photo one) that you will like, I think. It's called Stuff Parisians Like, at: http://www.o-chateau.com/blog/

Aww now James, don't start that Roll Tide mess! But if you go through Memphis or Nashville, you gotta have ribs at Corky's. Trust me.

And for the record, the staff posed themselves the minute I asked for a picture!

Ming, I don't care how "high end" you go, Yankees don't know about good barbeque! Come on down here and have some.

W,
Sadly no caramel cake here but some good banana pudding I think!

There is such a large variety of BBQ, I find it difficult to determine which style I like best. Whether it's a dry rub, wet, sweet and tangy, vinegary, it's all good. So, I shall keep trying BBQ as often as I can to determent which is best. Love them baby back ribs! However, a pulled pork sandwich just HAS to be Memphis style. Next time. please post pics of those delectable ribs! mmmm, ribs... pass the roll of towels please!

The white sauce is new but I'm very, very familiar with the red sauce. The paper towels go without saying. The peeps and the piggies are perfect in everyway.

I saw that article and decided as soon as I heard about Miss Myra's that I really just HAVE to make a trip to Birmingham soon to try their BBQ. We have lots of amazing food in CA, but I've never had blow-your-mind BBQ here. And now I want to try Golden Flake chips too. Mmmm, thanks for featuring this restaurant and fun looking crew!
