My last trip to the Pepper Place Market, I passed this nice lady taking a little break from selling shelled peas and butter beans. It was HOT that morning and she was fanning with what looked like a towel. I jokingly told here she needed a "funeral home fan". The young man in the group photo below said he knew what I meant and ran to the truck and produced one. It didn't come from a funeral home but it worked just fine. She put it up when she saw my camera, but I sweet talked her into letting me get her photo. Voilá! Thank you ma'am!!

Apparently word has gotten round town when Miss Virginia comes a clicking with her camera to cover up, lest you end up on TMZ or some blog!

Having just reread To Kill a Mockingbird and Cold Sassy Tree, I have noticed several instances where the need for a funeral home was great in both the books and real life. So glad that they had one handy!

I thoroughly enjoyed this post and how friendly everyone is. The man on the left...I had to look at him two or three times to get it straight in my head that he wasn't holding up the FARM sign but had is hand and arm around the lady beside him. Still, it looks like somebody is pointing to the phone number with one finger. LOL

Must be a Southern tradition. Us Yankees would be more interested in a drink than a fan. But then you might like one of those, too.

That sweet young man has been hanging on to that sign - if you look closly you can see that it's from October 2007 and there is one lady who has a "drink" - looks like "lemonade" - maybe. Great shots!
Ah I see now. Just struck me again about a white woman photographer, photographing a black woman and it not being about race riots, or feminism just two woman sharing a moment. Deep, I will paddle back to the shallow end.
I hate to be a spoil sport but that is not a true fan much less a funeral home fan!you have not seen the true south for one thing there was no sign of a stick from the bottom and the shape was wrong
okI had to super enlarge it to see the stick but she is not holding it by that I know details but I have see 50 or more held by the stick inside in a church!!!!just dont think you have shown me in your pics the true south!!!
