Birmingham has long been known for its magazine publishing industry. Sadly the economy has had a devastating effect and many of my favorites have stopped the presses or gone to Yankeeland. ( Don't make me talk about that!). Well things are looking up. Longtime Birmingham editor,
Joe O'Donnell has brought a new kid on the block.
B Metro came on the scene in July '09. I enjoy it because it focuses on the PEOPLE here in the Birmingham area that are making a difference in our city. It's also featured the variety of blogs sprouting up all over town, which caught my eye for sure! Joe, his staff, and I are collaborating on some exciting things for the future. Stay tuned. And you Alabama readers.......go out and buy a copy!

Hey! "Yankee in Belgrade" asks "What's wrong with Yankeeland?" Did you mean 'up north' or Belgrade, ha, ha. :)
I know what you mean, regardless of the reason. Some of my favorite mags have bitten the dust over the years. I like the bookshelf in this photo!
Does this mean your work will be included, V? I hope so. No offense taken by your grumble about Yankeeland. These are two excellent images.
Thinking of Bibi: Yes what's wrong with Yankeeland? :)
It probably won't be long till your name appears in bMetro, Virginia :)
Love the angles and that mirror shot .. the endless image!
Now don't all you Yankees get your feathers ruffled HA!!!
Thèrése,
Maybe, we'll see! :)
This all sounds most promising and good to hear a new publication is on the ground.
I adore that second shot!
Tough times for print media. «Louis» hopes the new publication finds prosperity and longevity. Book-lover «Louis» worries about book publishing with Kindles taking hold...
Congratulations, Virginia!
What a fine image the second one is!
This Yankee wants to know where the photos were taken? I don't believe that you took me there on my Grand Tour!
Mary, these are B Metro's offices at the Pepper Place. We'll go by and say hello next time you come across the Mason-Dixon Line! :)
As I scrolled down the page...loved the shelf and mags...but then I saw the mirror...FABULOUS!!!...
I think you need to get yourself a fancy portfolio, enlarge a nice selection of your B'ham photos and march yourself over to that nice little office in your fav Pepper Place!!! We're all rooting for you!!! (Tell them if they do they just might expand their readership!!!)
Chieftess,
It's not a mirror, but a series of huge circles that were cut out of the wall to let in light to the back area. They painted the insides bright red. You know I had to go back to the car.....in the rain.....to get that camera! Very cool place and really nice folks.
V
at least you had the camera in the car!!!
Terrific photos, V. We've got a couple of Ocala magazines that do what you describe...so far, so good; they're still in business!
Interesting, and nice photos. The last one is my favorite. Have a nice week!:-)
