I found this photo in my archives. It's the well worn wooden steps leading to the dugout at Historic Rickwood Field, the oldest ballpark ( 100 years in August 2010!) in America. This one is for my friend Robert who's family founded Rickwood Field. There will be a terrific 100th birthday celebration this summer. I'll be there!
Today City Daily Photobloggers from around the world are putting their spin on the theme WOOD.

Good one, Virginia!
Termites done went an' et the wood «Louis» was going to post...
What a beautiful B and W image. I wonder how many feet have passed over these beautiful planks of wood.
And gosh, I'm bowled over - thanks so much for mentioning the photo of Henri on Menton today. A compliment from you means a lot but the subject sure did help!
V, I have to second your mention of "Henri" on Jilly's Menton blog. A wonderful portrait, to be sure!
But, I hasten to add that your well worn floor in this stadium has a wonderful feel of nostalgic charm as well. Henri is cuter, though, I'm sure you'll agree. -:)
Happy Theme Day!
Now, please don't forget that February is a very short month, only 28 days this year, unlike last year. LOL!!
Wooden steps carry so many memories....I still remember fondly a couple from my youth...
magnifique b&w sur le thème du bois. un beau contrasme entre cet escalier et les sièges modernes du stade
This may bee counter-intuitive, but this post lead me to think about Tiger Woods and eating a macaron.
Oh, this is a wonderful image, and yes, it has a warm feel of days gone by. I love the composition.
Great image, V. Those steps lead us right up into the bleachers of summer memories of warm nights, crowds of families, peanut venders, bright stadium lights, green, green grass, the crack of the bat, the cheer of the crowds...And I'll third the salute to Jilly's Menton entry. It's superb.
I must be getting senile. Once again, I forgot it was Theme Day. Maybe next month. I like your interpretation.
"Would" you believe I have purchased another laptop with suicidal tendencies. Hoping all not lost, but just as I relaunch the blog it commits "laptopicide." This is a last minute beauty. Not just the wood, but the layers and textures, into the light. Can't wait to see the celebrations of this place for the 100th on the blog. I expect lots of those Chuck primary colours on show. The guys here requestlots of Cheerleaders in primary colours on show. Boys!
Wonderful shot . well worth the time to re-find it
I can just imagine all the feet that have used those steps. 100 years? That's terrific, can't wait to see the celebration photos.
beautiful post for theme day and I agree with you about Jilly's portrait for today, it is superb
If those stairs could talk...
Hard to imagine a ball park that's 100 years old. And these are original? That's incredible.
Wouldn't it be interesting to have a video of all the players and coaches that have traversed these few steps down through the years?
A wonderful, evocative image. The framing is great.
I love so many of your photographs. This one really reflects your wonderful eye. You always find art in the ordinary. Well done, girlfriend.
(BTW, I've had JIlly's blog remind me of Theme Day once before, too!)
I look at the wear pattern in those steps and think about all the stories they could tell. That kind of thing is all concrete now. No romance.
The worn steps here are echoes of the myriad of sprogs over the years, Virginia. This image alone presents sensory overload, if only we listen carefully enough.
Amazing that there's still anything left of the old wood. Almost everything else looks like they're made of steel, concrete and plastic.
Love your photo V...like Laurie, I think you have a knack for finding the artistic in the mundane...
I also think of the ball players from the early 1900's who crossed these boards to get to the field...awesome!!!
And thank you for the link to Jilly's site...you're so right...a wonderful representation of theme day...a wonderful photo and subject!
Thanks everyone. I promise to get back out there for the celebration. For the record, this is an photograph from my second photography class about 2 years ago. I really did not want to go on the class field trip to Rickwood. DIdn't think I'd find anything I wanted to shoot there. Boy, was I mistaken!
What great texture! What atmosphere! Maybe the best shot I've seen all morning.
(Trying to catch up on my blog-viewing...an endless task but lots of fun.)
Like this b-w.
The stairs seems to come from a past century but the other sits have a moder style. I like the combination.
