Ode to Baseball

" I won't be happy until we have every boy in America between the ages of six and sixteen wearing a glove and swinging a bat."  Babe Ruth

Those of you who know me are well aware that my knowledge of baseball might fill a thimble.  I am pretty clueless,  but this shelf full of old, well worn gloves at On A Shoestring, and this terrific bat sculpture at Sloss Furnaces, both caught my eye.  My post today is for my blog friend Mister Earl , who is over the moon about the playoffs or something or other.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WE HAVE WINNERS!!!

Last Tuesaday we had another "Go Ahead, Write Your Own Title" contest. The judge has spoken:

FIRST PLACE: "See What Happens When You Don't Floss!" Daryl, NYC
SECOND PLACE:  "Call Today For Ridiculously Low Installation"  Mad About Paris
THIRD PLACE:  "Toothday, Twofer One"  Eeyore
FOURTH PLACE:  A tie - "The Tooth, Nothing But the Tooth" by Yorkshire Pudding and
  David McMahon
Thank you all for your fabulous titles. I've got a really good photo coming up on PTML soon. Stay tuned.

We're all winners, because we have you. Is it Happy Birthday now? Or do I have to keep writing this for another 363 days?

Bravo for these! I was expecting a different kind of bat sculpture for Halloween, and then I scrolled down. But it is still good ;)

Both fun shots! You sure had a lot of terrific entries for that contest. I don't know how you chose a winner!

I can almost smell the old leather wafting here. And, who would think to do that with old aluminum bats?!

the warm color of the gloves suggests the fondness their owners felt for them.

Wonderful post in honor of the true American sport!!! I'm rooting for the Giants along with the Hubman...for a very simple reason...his bet with his long time friend!!! For well over thirty years, the Hubman and his friend Blu have bet the entire season...don't ask me the particulars of his betting process 'cause it's way over my head...all I know is we lost the (bull) trophy for this year but the Hubman has a chance to recoup some $$$ if the Giants win...mind you it is high stakes betting...I think the most anyone can win is $16!!! But there's the humiliation dinner at Damon's with the gang of old friends and the coveted swinging the bull trophy!
Go Giants!!!
