Shoeshine Guy

When my friend Bob Crowe was here last week from St. Louis, he noted that we had two shoeshine establishments within a block of each other in downtown Birmingham.  He thought this quite remarkable in this day and age.  For this photographer, it's an never ending source of material.  Here's one of the nice  guys at Bon Ton Hatters.

Glad you were able to get together with Bob. I hope to meet him some day. He has rented one of our condos in Costa Rica for four years in a row, so he is a friend, but we have not yet met in person.

Now why didn't I think of that since there is a shoe shine stand where I get my car washed. You must have had an interesting visit with Bob. How do you like the temporary CDP?

I love the sound of a shine rag popping across a new shoeshine. Wish there was one on every corner!

TheChief used to go to a shoe stand like this when he worked for LAPD...ever since then it's been an uphill battle finding a good shoe shop!!!

I'm glad you got a shot of this. I believe you when you tell me that this is a Southern tradition - you hardly ever see it around here any more. The idea of someone working on my feet makes egalitarian me uncomfortable.

Not much like that here... the closest would be places that repair shoes. Maybe at a train station?
