CDP Theme Day - Postcard-worthy

Japanese Bridge
Japanese Garden, Birmingham Botanical Gardens

It's the first of month already and you know what that means by now....City Daily Photo's Theme Day!
This month's theme is Postcard-worthy.  This was a no brainer.  The bridge in the serene Japanese Garden at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens is a show stopper.

There are almost a thousand CDP bloggers from right here in Alabama ( have a look at Selma's DP here) and around the world.  They will have some fabulous photos to share of their fair cities.

Karesansui

Tuesday I combined my walk with a photography hunt through the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. It was sunny and crisp and just a grand day to enjoy the gardens in all their bare midwinter splendor. I've photographed the Japanese Gardens many times, but this day the Karesanui (dry landscape garden) appealed to me in the afternoon sun. I hope my friend Ann sees this post, and feels I've caught the spirit of this very special, and serene garden. I think the next time I come here, I'll leave the camera in the car and just take a deep breath, relax, and relish this peaceful place.

Serenity

The Japanese Gardens at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens is a lovely serene place. The last time I posted photographs here, I made a new and very special friend. Since then we have shared a leisurely lunch and exchanged many emails. I decided to let her choose the photograph she liked best for this post. (She chose my favorite.) Quelle surprise!

TWO THINGS CHALLENGE: Stars/Stripes

STARS - la tour Eiffel

Once in a blue moon I participate in the prestigious Two Things Challenge.  I am always so pleased with myself when I can......  1. Figure out what the 2 THINGS CHALLENGE is for the week  2. Can find something to enter!  Well today it's a titch of a stretch but I am happy to be part of Team 2 Things again!  Stars and Stripes is our theme this week.  My stars is none other than the fabulous Eiffel Tower resplendent with the stars signifying the European Union.  The stripes is the bamboo forest in the afternoon sunlight at the Japanese Gardens

Winter's Afternoon Light

Many of you have commented on the nice light and shadows we get here in the winter.  I agree! This was photographed at the Japanese Gardens recently .  It's really all about the light, isn't it!

The Japanese Gardens in Winter

Adjacent to our Birmingham Botanical Gardens you'll find the picturesque Japanese Gardens.  I ventured over last Sunday after my walk,  on a cold, dreary day.  Not the best conditions for a photo shoot, but I am a desperate woman !  I walked to the very edge of the gardens and wandered into this amazing bamboo forest.  If my hands hadn't been numb, I would have thought I had been transported to a tropical isle!  It was a tad too dark for  photographs , but I hope you get the feeling.
