TWO THINGS CHALLENGE: Local/International

Independent Presbyterian Church
Birmingham, Alabama

Sainte-Chapelle
 Paris France
I am happy to join  Team Two Things this week.  My photos are similar, yet half a world apart.

TOP PHOTO:  LOCAL, is a stained glass window in the sanctuary of my church,  Independent Presbyterian Church here in Birmingham.  A sight I never tire of seeing.

BOTTOM PHOTO: INTERNATIONAL, features the breathtaking windows at Sainte- Chapelle in Paris France.  One of the most beautiful places I have ever visited.

The Tune du Jour is " Panis Angelicus" sung by Andrea Bocelli

Virginia, What beautiful choices for your Two Things Challenge and what perfect music you've selected to go along with them! Just lovely.

I was wondering what you would do for this challenge! Gorgeous, V.

Nice! Excellent interpretation of this week's challenge.

And just so you know, you're ahead of me on the curve on this one. I still don't know what I'm posting... Guess I should get cracking!

Great choice for the local/international thing! Really nice post, well done!

Yes, they are truly beautiful, V! I always marvel at stained glass ornaments at churches - beautiful works of art.

Both stained glass windows looks spectacular!

The Catholics do get a lot of style points but then the cathedral builders of Europe had almost inexhaustible resources. Your local church has graceful design, too. Modern stained glass windows often seem to me to be trying too hard to tell a story at the expense of beauty.

Both have their own kind of beauty. Stained glass doesn't always work for me and I realise why now re Bob's thoughts. Lovely capture of light and colour. So having veiwed both in person do you have a preference or can you not call it.? Just curious.

Virginia said...

B,
Impossible to call. My church's windows are exceptional and I have an emotional tie to that place. Sainte-Chapelle of course is so breathtakingly beautiful with the full length windows that photographs cannot do it justice. We saw it on a dark dreary day and it was still magnificent. Both are beautiful in their own special way.

freakily similar!

Ken's observation echoed mine, that's why I asked the question form someone who has seen both in the flesh. I'm having a pure photography week on the blog from today, which may not go down to well, but I'm trying to convey what I do for a living. Another reason for asking you too compare the two places as how you take an image often belies what we really think of something. You can tell you love both equally. Thanks you for indulging my nosiness.

This is a wonderful rendition of the meme especially since it features your beloved church. I'm completely overcome by the second window and what it took to create it. It's stunning.

V, do you think they will keep the Cheyenne as a diner or turn it into some frou fou $$$$$$$$$$$ joint? I am gonna come down there and throw Aunt Jemima at them if that happens!

Virginia said...

KM,
It'll come closer to being a bar-b-que joint but hopefully it'll be kept the very same. I'm on it. We need to chat by email. I have an idea we need to hash out. Loved your post!!!

My goodness this is beautiful. I wish I thought of something as gorgeous for the challenge. The window at the Independent Persbyterian is something I'd like to see over and over.

I couldn't enlarge the Paris photo, but the stained glass in your church is absolutely wonderful. You can enjoy beautiful works of art time after time. I did wonder when you were going to show it to us and here it is. Thank you Virginia.

Virginia said...

Olivier, difficult indeed since I didn't have a tripod for either shot and it was very low light!

Marc,
no clue why you couldn't enlarge Sainte-Chapelle. Posting photographs and enlarging etc. is not my forte believe me!

Halcyon,
Merci pour le francais! I got some of it, but alas had to go to Babelfish! Yes, I think it's one of Paris' most special places. Missed it my first trip but this time I was so happy that I went. I want to hear a concert there this next trip.

I love stained glass. Both beautiful shots!

Well done stained glass! Both equally beautiful, but I have only seen one in person internationally.

I have never been to the Presbyterian church, even though it is less than 50 miles away, but I have been to Sainte-Chapelle, half way around the world. Both are beautiful, but Sainte-Chapelle blew me away. Gorgeous.

Eyeore,
we would love to have you visit! It's only a few miles away when you make the trek in to serve breakfast.
Come on! And you're right about Saint-Chapelle. You really have to be there to appreciate its beauty.
