Let's Go Out for Dinner!

We haven't been out to eat lately,  so I'd like to take you to one of my favorite places.  Little Savannah right here in my Forest Park neighborhood never disappoints.  Owners Cliff and Maureen Holt just celebrated 5 successful years, and they have made their cozy restaurant one of Birmingham's most respected eateries.  They've added a deck out back which has been known to feature live music when the weather warms up.  Their menu changes frequently depending on what fresh homegrown ingredients are in season.  What to order?  Well it's ALL wonderful, but I enjoyed the shrimp and polenta when I went for brunch recently. Oh, and the Provençal Violette Sparkler is an absolute must!

Yes, Virginia, there really is a Dixie Jane! And I have come a visitin'. Laurie has told me so much about your work and I am surely impressed. I wish I could dine with you here. I was born in Louisiana but grew up in Texas. I know all about turnip greens and blackeyed peas and cornbread. (My Southern mother's influence.) You are simply an amazing photographer. I painted for years but since my husband's death, and my caring for him for 14 years, I have it in my heart but it is not coming through to the canvas. I am so happy that we met (sort of) through Laurie's blog. She is so fond of you. Write to me sometime at DixiBel@aol.com Love Dixie Jane

c'est bête que l'enseigne soit tagguée, car elle est très belle, très vieux style

A very pleasant place to enjoy with friends!
The weather seems to be quite nice, here it's raining so much every day, I think we are going to see fins take place instead of our arms and legs...

Look at the riot of colours! Lovely!

Oh, I am surprised you had polenta! That's very northern Italy! We often have polenta with different things on it: cheese, meat, veg, baccalà. I have never tried it with shrimps!! Sounds interesting....

Yum. I love to discover restaurants like this. There's a soul restaurant, at least that's what I call it, in Seattle that I often go to when there.

Dixie Jane, Ya'll come as we say and visit often. Wish you could go to Little Savannah with me and we would have us a fine time chatting!!!

JM, You too my friend. Great food and such nice owners. They make you want to come back time and again.

Valeria, I'll have to check the menu on their link but it had bacon and a yummy sauce.

Alice, Don't swim out to sea!

Le jour que je convainque mon mari de m’amener a Birmingham, on ira ici pour déjeuner. J’adore le polenta, surtout avec des crevettes !

good eats and still time to hit the bar!

Looks like a very welcoming place! Red goes a long way toward saying, "Y'all come!"

I thought you'd never ask; let me go grab my coat. (Help me get Ken Mac up, he's fallen again.)

You're lucky to have so many great choices there. I love the colors. Is it warm enough to sit outside yet?

AH,
Maybe KM's polyester slacks have affected his judgement. He's such a cute bar fly!

Tut-tut,
Oh yes! 73F is perfect "out back" weather. Now we could have another few days of really cold weather this month but I think the end of winter is near!

Halcyon,
Work on that hubby. You need to come for a visit. We'll sip some Violette Sparklers!!!

I lived in Savannah for a short itme and loved it. I've just placed this restaurant on my short list of places to visit in B'ham.

If you say "let's go our for dinner", you don't have to persuade me for long!

Sounds like the place to be! Yummy!

PJ,
A Violette Sparkler has a small amount of violet syrup in the bottom of a champagne glass. Add the champagne and enjoy. It turns this pale gray/violet color and is just barely sweet. Heavenly!!! We found the syrup online!

Peter,
Unfortunately they don't have chocolate soufflé with Grand Marnier or hot fudge sauce. I won't forget those desserts at Soufflé for a very long time!

Not every restaurant takes good care of the back door!!
I would love to try that violette sparkler with you!!

M-N,
When we go this summer, there will be a big bottle of violette syrup in my suitcase. Maybe we will see you in Paris???? We could get les amis together again!! We would of course have to order some chocolat mousse for sure.
