Meet Augustus, the unofficial boss at the Plant Odyssey ( we've been here before). He greeted me when I got out of my car. Perched in a tree, he was squawking his head off. I chatted with him later as I wandered around the outside part of the nursery. He finally flew down to the open door to get a closer look. I was a touch nervous, thinking I might be wearing him as a hat any minute. Owner Libby is a bird lover and has huge cages inside with a wide variety of feathered friends. Augustus pretty much does his own thing from what I can tell. The bottom photo is a birdhouse on an outside wall. It's too small for Augustus but I just liked the light and shadows. You guessed that I'm sure.
Hard to believe that way back last June when I got this harebrained idea to do a daily photo blog, I'd have 300 posts under my belt. I've come a long way since the day I asked my "Mac Dude" at the Apple Store, "How in the heck do I make a blog???" Well 300 posts, many, many new friends and strangers, hilarious experiences and about 1 gazillion photos later, I'm still having a ball! Thank you all for your visits, comments, helpful suggestions, photo critiques etc. Laissez les bon temps rouler!!!

Congrats on 300 posts. Your work is beautiful and I enjoy your comments over at Ken Mac's.
Congrats, Virginia! May there be many, many more. I like Augustus, though I have no luck with birds, or even any rapport, especially with the big guys, whose sharp beaks scare me....ow.
félicitation pour ton 300th posts, et superbe photo pour cet anniversaire.
Congratulations on your 300th posts, and superb picture for the anniversary.
V, I thought Augustus was going to be a cat. How wrong could I be?! Three hundres posts - Congratulations!!! When I first saw your post on July 24 I didn't realize how "young" you were. You do a fabulous job each and every day - both with your photos AND your writing. (No folks - I am not on the payroll - I just think she does a super job!) There were about four comments then - I love all the frineds and visitors you've gotten over this time. Keep it up - please.
I was shocked when I noticed that I am at something like 278. Isn't it fun, though?
Seriously, V, you have created a remarkable space here. Not just with your amazing photos (not to mention the ones on Paris Through My Lens) but with your grace and humor and friendship and all the interesting information you bring us about Birmingham.
The Mayor needs to make you city photographer!
Congrats on 300!
From what I can see, this is a Corella, an Australian native parrot. Wild ones used to come over for a feed at my place in Sydney. They are extremely noisy birds and their cackling at sunset is a typical sound of the outback.
Here's a little more info:
As pets
Long-billed Corellas are now popular as pets in many parts of Australia. This may be due to their ability to mimic words and whole sentences to near perfection. The long-billed corella has been labeled the best "talker" of the Australian Cockatoos.
As pests
Long-billed Corellas are viewed as agricultural pests, particularly in western Victoria. They can create significant crop damage and are also well known for tearing up pieces of asphalt along roadsides and even damaging power lines. Permits are sometimes issued in Victoria for the culling of this species.
And now congratulations on your 300 posts, this is absolutely fantastic! I completely agree with you about the way blogging has changed our world!
And I can't leave without a special metion for your dancing chairs post. I LOVED IT!
Bravo, bravo, bravo! We are waiting for many other posts beside you, dear Virginia.
(800th for me tomorrow...)
Congratulations! Your blog is one of my favorites. Keep up the good work.
Can't believe how happy I am your macdude pointed you in the right direction. What we we do without BADP? (Maybe best to call it BDP)
Oh, I love this shop.
Congratulations on 300 posts...
:-)
...and beautiful
the portrait of Augustus
really an emperor!
Congratulations on the big 3.0.0.
Looking forward to many more milestones.
Congrats on your 300 posts! Hope we make it that many! And love the little bird house, is very cute!
V makes 300 posts sound like a walk in the park. If only you knew what life is like behind the scenes as her producer/manager. The stories I could tell.
If I make it to 300 posts I'm taking a long holiday.
this bird is about to fly down and munch on you!
Happy 300 post ! Bravo !
Oh Wayne says he'll take a long holiday - like he doesn't every weekend. Being his producer/manager is no piece of cake either. It's all I can do to keep him on the streets M-F. And the pay....well let's just say it's not nearly enough!
Laurie,
I appreciate the thought, but there's not enough money in B'ham to pay me to work for our mayor!
Nathalie,
Thanks for the great bird info today.
Thank you everyone. You all are the reason this is so much fun!
I can tell Augustus has plenty of personality! This place is so charming. I can't wait to get back to the Ham! I guess you noticed I never made it for my spring break. Your header is beautiful!! Is that another garden I should know?
Oh yes....Hurrah for your 300th posting. I love coming by here every day!
(And I thought I was on a roll with all I have managed by my 1 month anniversary yesterday....ROFL that is!)
Next year you may borrow Agustus as a hat for the Easter Parade!!!
Bravo for the 300th posts.
Huge congrats to you for 300! I love my daily visits here - great writing, great humour and great photos (getting annoyingly better every day!) I look forward to much more to come :)
Love the light and textures in the second shot.
Happy 300th! Obviously, the MacDude gave you some very good advice.
He's a pretty bird! congrats on 300 posts! Now you're a pro.
What a gorgeous bird. I hope he squawked 'congratulations Virginia' on your 300 posts. You are a talented and original addition to the CDP community - every post is worth waiting for.
And by the way, today's Monte Carlo post was taken the other end of Monaco to the tennis - so you might have to visit one day to understand it!
Belated congratulations. Enforced blog break due to work. No net in a field. Birds of course are a big part of my personal and working working world. He's a cheeky fellow and I swear he's posing just for your special day. Always a joy to visit and see the progression. Roll on Paris.
Congratulations on your 300th post, Virginia! This is the most fantastic bird house I've ever seen!
I cannot believe I didn't congratulate you on 300th post! So belatedly CONGRATULATIONS on so many gorgeous photos and on making us in blogland happy.
