Highlands

That one word....Highlands...... is all you have to say around here. Folks know that you are headed to Highland's Bar and Grill, Frank Stitt's flagship restaurant. If you read the NY Times article 36 Hours in Birmingham,  you know that it was ranked in the top 5 for the prestigious James Beard Award.  I featured another window here before my last trip to Paris.  Today, a photograph that was one of those "Christmas presents" as I like to call them.  A photo that when loaded on your computer makes you sit back and smile.  This is a personal favorite of mine. I love the reflection being the star and the interior of the restaurant taking a back seat. Coming to Birmingham?  Make reservations at Highlands.  Bon appétit!

Merci beaucoup mille fois to my friend PJ at Pensacola Daily Photo for her dear bon voyage post for me today.  Merci PJ, what a thoughtful gesture.

Hmmm...the Highlands sounds like the place to go....

So jealous you're leaving for Paris in four days. Think of me when you land; we're in the same time zone!!

Great reflection here! It looks like two photos in just one!

What a reflection, it took me a moment to figure this out. Why have a car in the restaurant?

Are you done packing yet? That is always the tough part; cramming a the full contents of a dresser into a bitty suitcase. Next time I'm going strictly carry-on.

Excellent tableau and window shot. I photographed that from a different angle and wondered about it since it was next door to Chez Fonfon. Then I read the NY Times article.
The dog sniffers are okay by me. At the dog park they're forever behaving like it's Wednesday (hump day). But then again, their owners are infinitely more interesting to watch under those circumstances. They're all so dog proud.

The building across the way with the arches and awnings makes it a great shot.

Window reflections sometimes make the best photos as you have clearly demonstrated.

Surely you're kidding. Paris...beautiful weather??? Why I've not experienced that very often. Maybe I'll actually be able to sit outside a cafe and sip some wine?? Terrific. Hope to see you while I"m there.

This has just become a personal fave of MINE, too, Ms. V. Me thinks a series in B&W cafe window scenes probably already exists in your work. I would love to see it pulled together or added to. I like what you see and the way you see it! Wish I had more time to visit, especially as you go abroad. Although I won't be able to follow closely at first, as the school year winds down you will find me to be a real STALKER :-). If I can't be with you, at least I can enjoy your travels vicariously.
