Those of you that have followed my blog since last summer are very familiar with our
Pepper Place Market. It's open from May through October on Saturdays. Located around the old Dr. Pepper Bottling Company, it's the place to be on a Saturday morning. There are wonderful fruits and vegetables from local growers, flowers, homemade sweets, jams, salsa, crafts, live music and demonstrations by local chefs. I don't mind telling you that this is one thing I'll miss while I'm in France.

Sounds like a wonderful market. I like those little white flowers in front.
I like the compositions but I esp. like the colors in all three shots. I wanna be a Pepper too! With a posie. (gosh, I've gotta go look up what a posie is...never really thought about it.)
But... on the bright side you'll have French markets!

I miss markets full stop. None here. I really could have mistaken this for the UK Brum, so twice as nostalgic for me.
So now I know why it's called "The Pepper Place". Pretty clever way to reuse the space. People are so friendly at the outdoor market, they know they don't have to face the check out line.
Of all the wonderful festivals Birmingham hosts each spring and summer, Pepper Place is by far my favorite place to gather. Your photographs certainly capture that spirit.

Stay tuned, there will be many more. I won't be around to photograph it for the next month or two but don't tell anyone, but I have some leftover vegetables etc. from last summer that I might sneak in!

Ain't nobody drinking Dr. Pepper here in NYC, which is maybe why I'm at the airport heading home. But such energy... But there are great vegetable and flower markets here, just that things cost a wee bit more than Alabama or Missouri.
Localy grown vegetables and fresh farm flowers...something we could not find here a few years ago!!
Too bad the prices here are really through the roof!!

But you'll have the wonderful open markets in France with all that fantastic cheese. I think the markets are better in the South of France than Paris.
Wish we had a Pepper Place in San Diego!

I was wondering if you might have gone by the Highland Avenue Rhodes Park Doo Dah Day Parade. It was held yesterday. Do you know about that one?

I went to Pepper Place but it poured down rain all day. I dont' have a dog anymore so Doo Dah Day wasn't on my list. I'll have to admit it would have been a blast. Stay tuned. The PPM is a hotbed of canine activity. That's coming up !

I know the Paris/French markets are fabulous but here you can buy "southern fare" like okra, and poundcakes, and chow chow. You know, regional soul food! I'll miss that as much as I'll love the wonderful French offerings.

I know hot Dr. Pepper is a delicacy somewhere but not here. I like it on crushed ice at my friend Sam's hot dog stand. In fact, I had a large one on Friday!
I arrived here via The Keeping Room and what a treat. I love candid photography of a specific event or situation. I found myself wondering just exactly what meal the lady prepared with the 'greens' in her shopping bag.
Fruit and Veggie markets are the best part of summer!
