Music To My Ears

It's no secret that I love getting down to the Pepper Place Market on Saturday mornings. I love the bustle of the crowds, seeing farmers, bakers, artists and artisans who I know from year to year, getting bags full of fresh Alabama veggies, and hearing the music of the local musicians. I caught this guy as I was heading to my car. I apologize for not getting the name of his group.

Saxy at the Pepper Place Market

This saxophone player has appeared many times at the Pepper Place Market.  He appeared with Debbie Bond when I captured him this day.  If anyone knows his name, I would love to include it!

Bare Footin'

It's hot down here. So hot that now we're even kicking off our flip flops!

Today meet Peanut.  If you're lucky, you will find her at the Pepper Place Market some Saturday.  This day, I caught her with her flip flops tossed aside.  Doesn't she have a great smile? Oh and she can sing too!!!

A tune for you today right here.

CDP Theme Day - Favorite Part of Town

If you have followed this blog for very long, you will have already guessed my favorite part of town...the Pepper Place Market of course!  I have more fun photographing here than almost anywhere else in Birmingham.   I'm thrilled that it will reopen the middle of April and go full swing until December. Stay tuned.

Today, over 500 of my City Daily Photoblogger friends around the world are sharing their favorite part of town.  You'll want to have a look!

Saturday Morning Blues

This is the second year that I've enjoyed Debbie Bond's music at the Pepper Place. Husband Rick plays the harmonica and keyboard. A few weekends ago they were joined by James who played a mean bass and had us all singing along with "Mustang Sally"!

Au Revoir Pepper Place Market! sniff sniff

Oh it had to end sometime. As my faithful followers know, the Pepper Place Market is my chief source of photos from spring until........October 1oth ( sniff). Today I will be there for the last time till spring. I'll bet you're wondering what I'll do for photos for this blog for the next six months or so. Well I'm wondering the same thing! Today, I leave you with one of my very favorite vendors. Meet Donny Tomlin. He does double duty each Saturday. His "main thing" is as the "Maple Man". Donny has some nice Japanese maples for sale. When his sweet wife mans their booth, he grabs that guitar and belts out some fine tunes. The day I snapped these photos, he was singing "Brick House" ( This isn't Donny's version but it'll do). Lord have mercy he's good!

I was unable to get his website to work so search for: Donny Tomlin, Tomlin Landscaping Serv.
